I wonder if media insiders get daily updates on how shows have timeshifted in each of the 7 days that count - ie, that 13m SCD figure includes viewers who watched up to Monday?

Yes, but thousands of people who read The Guardian will now be misled into thinking TXF was the most watched show of 2011, even beating the wedding. See the comments already being posted. As a seemingly authoritative source of media news, other media may report the Guardian's nonsense as fact. It matters.

Nobody really cares about a list compiled by a handful of ratings nerds on a DS web forum.

I like the way they have different audience figures for the top two shows, but have them ranked as joint number one.

I thought I recognised the name. She's the numpty who used to produce ill informed, anti BBC guff in the Mail. How the devil did she get a job on The Guardian?

I notice that Daybreak viewers and the One show viewers are less than has been recorded on a Monday for a while. I think figures were boosted on Monday's especially due to X factor and SCD respectively. Interesting to see if this continues in the new year with those two shows over. They will have to wait until BGT and the Voice to boost their figures again

Terminator Salvation is another one that'll do well, they also have Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Paul Blart Mall Cop, Open Season 2, Pink Panther 2, The Ugly Truth, Zombieland and Year One.

Blimey, some great titles in there. Zombieland in particular is a blast.

Woops, only just spotted that. Not deliberate - I was out for the day and quickly did it before I went out, clearly not spotting that rzt got there before me.

Nevertheless, poor ratings to be honest in particular in the 9pm slot. As for Herriot not being recommissioned, I don't know, could still be recommissioned with mid 5m's in the officials?

Interesting to see on the BBC programme information for the week beginning the 14th Jan, The One Griff Rhys Jones is down for Monday at 8.30. Interesting because Panorama hasn't had such a long break since it moved to that slot - unless it's moving to a different slot. No Panorama until Jan 23rd is very unusual.

According to Deadline, Steve Jones will not return for the second season of The X Factor, as his contract was not renewed.”

Simon is more likely to sign up the host the day before the next season not the day after this season. I've always felt though it was a massive mistake not to give the job to an American.

Ouch - 50% loss overnight after it's premiere. No surprise though - they've kind of thought lets do a mini-Big Brother, make it Christmas themed, make it based around a family - and then thought of little else.

C4 really need to move away from these stripped weekly formats and start commissioning some weekly formats which can bring an audience in every week.

Home for the Holidays is just a bad idea all around.

I started the first episode, but it did not grab me, so gave up as I did not want to give up an hour a night in Xmas week to watch it.

If a channel is to do a stripped across the week show, it needs to have a concept that keeps people watching (BGT works as it is different every night). Must cost C4 a lot of money, and wasting a key week for advertising as well.

There has been some questionable scheduling from C4 with their Christmas specials - two parters on different nights, Kirsty Allsopps show on one week, off the next, on the next, and the ratings suggest This is England over three nights was a mistake - would have been much better weekly. And then they shoe-horned a Property Scandal season in too (BTW, how did Kevins Grand Design rate in it's Thursday 8pm slot - not as well I suspect as it would have in the usual Grand Designs slot on Wednesdays!).

EastEnders started at 7:28 so the one show must have finished early because they fit loads of Trailers in.
AB FAB trailer was shown just before EastEnders

Not seen the show but it does seem like a tricky area for Channel 4. Given the promotion, I don't think 1.4m was a particularly good start for it either.

Live entertainment isn't something that really works for them - Million Pound Drop being the exception, perhaps. I think a big play for The Voice might have changed that but from some comments on here, it seems Home For The Holidays isn't the show to do it. Obviously they want something like that (or a reality format) to replace Big Brother but I think it's going to continue to be a huge challenge for them.

Another blow for Vernon Kay as well.

Tbh if they'd hired Cat Deeley, I don't think it would have been an issue. In fact, if they'd hired Dermot I don't think it would have mattered. It's not that he's British, it's just that he's so, so bad.

Being from a foreign starry land was a large part of the reason Nicole worked on XF UK but not on her home version. It can be a huge advantage. But when you're as awful as Steve...

They run TOS and EE early so they can squeeze in the 90-second news update just before 8.

I think Channel 5's film slate for 2012 is pretty good especially as Channel 4 have already shown their big hitters. Angels and Demons or Terminator Salvation will likely be their first terrestrial premiere of 2012 after Big Brother on January 22nd or 29th. Would be good for them to secure another film package from Warner Bros for films like The Hangover but I don't think if ITV have the rights to them I noticed that not all WB films air on ITV in the last few years.

Is 'Home for the Holidays' part of Channel 4's ongoing "Creative Renewal"?

Another stinker to add to Jay Hunt's list.

Watched the Butlin's doc on ITV earlier, on the basis of it being one of George's recommended festive highlights. As poor as it was (basically a 45 minute promotional corporate video for Butlin's which somehow found its way onto network TV), I can see it rating well because there must be millions of ITV core demographic viewers of a certain age who will have misty eyed memories of holidays in a Butlin's POW, sorry, holiday camp. On paper (and content) you'd think a textbook Tuesday Night Flopzone 2m banker. But I'm not so sure.

Also caught the Comedy Annual. Bet there were more laughs with Herriot. Though Alastair McGowan was good - why did he end up no longer on TV whilst Culshaw, who has piss poor material and doesn't do many good impressions, gets a prime time impressions show on BBC1?

Re the Guardian's sloppy reporting referred to earlier, I have emailed the Readers' Editor as well as posting a comment on the nonsense article itself. If anyone else feels sufficiently excerised about the Guardian's misleading/plain wrong piece of journalism and people unnecessarily losing sleep because they think the nation cares more about a karaoke singing contest than the marriage of our future King & Queen then feel free to also drop the Readers' Editor a line and make your feelings known...

reader@guardian.co.uk

I will report back on any response.
