The X Factor Final - 2010 vs 2011
TOTAL - 17.16m vs 12.87m
4 to 15 - 13% vs 13% (-523k)
16 to 34 - 28% vs 28% (-1.18m)
35 to 44 - 19% vs 17% (-1.02m)
45 to 54 - 16% vs 18% (-522k)
55 to 64 - 11% vs 12% (-445k)
65+ - 13% vs 12% (-603k)

The skews seem virtually the same year-on-year apart from a bit of difference in the 35 onwards bracket where it seems the 35 to 44 bracket was down more percentage wise.

Yes, I'm sure me and you won't be the only saddos who, in time honoured festive tradition, take as much pleasure in watching the various junctions during today, tomorrow and Boxing Day as the programmes themselves. I usually sneak off to find a spare telly somewhere I can switch on to watch and then flick off again when the programme comes on.




There's a bit of an issue over a premature and inaccurate DS report the other day which not only proclaimed the winner of the "most watched TV of 2011", 11 days before the end of the year, but also got the 1st and 2nd placed shows mixed up.

Could someone look into that?

Cheers. The big cheeses at C5 have obviously made a huge error in trying to make Amy Childs the new face of their channel. Appalling reception for her show and with the 11pm slot for the remaining episodes in the new year I suspect they'll be considering her future at C5.

She should have stayed with "The Only Was is Essex"

I'm sure she'll be back soon enough. Imagine leaving TOWIE to go on to better things, only to star in a show that is gaining a fraction of TOWIE's audience...

I'm glad Amy flopped, it'll mean less if not the end of the celebrity rubbish on Channel 5. Surely even Desmond must realise it's not working. Hopefully Celebrity Wedding Planner will flop as well.

Indeed they should be but the data isn't on the spreadsheet yet - I can talk to my boss and get them added though for after Christmas.

CWP sounds very similar to Don't Tell The Bride which is a big 1m+ hit for BBC3. Although sometimes the public reject shows they see as blatant copies of other hits.

As for Amy herself, well its not been a total loss for her, I now know who she is. That said that isnt going to be hugely helpful to her career. Not sure if she should go back to TOWIE, or retire gracefully.

If Text Santa could only get 4m with an X Factor lead-in, it won't do well tonight, especially with tougher competition. The Cube struggles away from XF and Piers won't benefit from the low lead-in, and it's not really a 'special' enough show for Christmas Eve.

We can chop things off if we want to... but of course Attentional do not tape-check during holiday periods so nothing over Christmas from now will be tape-checked. Coronation Street last night was not tape-checked, I don't think.

Of course, it probably really wouldn't matter, if ITV is as low as your prediction Score tonight.

I'd like Text Santa to do better than that but there clearly isn't much interest in it if it could only get 4m after TXF Final. The Cube got 3.3m for its last celebrity special and is starting midway through Narnia, whilst Piers' show is just rubbish scheduling.

Just watching Text Santa, it's definitely better than the launch show, and at the moment basically seems like Saturday Night Takeaway with a charity angle. Maybe I've under predicted it a bit but we'll see.

Hairspray should do well although I'm a fan of the musical and the film it's based on but it wasn't a success in the same way Mamma Mia! was, still expect 2-2.5m though,

BTW - I know one casting director who reads this thread and some other threads on different sections often. He usually works for BBC and still is at the moment- well about the last 10 years. It was he who first showed me DS.

One thing in Text Santa's favour is BBC1's lazy film repeat-repeat taking up all of their early evening schedule. As TV viewing increases post 7pm/7.30pm what are people going to tune into - the last hour of a kids' film that's been on umpteen times, or find something else?

For anyone switching the telly on around now, then Text Santa seems to be the obvious choice at least till Merlin starts. At the moment it is basically A&D's Saturday Night Takeaway with another name, and that will capture viewers surely?

I think it will do miles better than the one with the TXF lead in, because people wanting an alternative to BBC1's early evening family fantasy line up could land on the Text Santa easy light entertainment offering by default.

I think it will do much better than people expect - nothing spectacular over 2.5 hrs average, but it could be getting around 5-6m round about now I suspect, and should certainly be in front at this point in the evening.

But from 8pm, and certainly from 8.45pm, the night belongs to BBC1.

I think your overstating this - plus Text Santa is two hours, can people be bothered sitting down to it in the first place?? Especially for the reasons the first performed poor (eg. ITV want to make money out of it)

I think that was just your reason not the general consensus!

The fact it followed the 2 hour long TXF final late on a Sunday night and was a completely different programme to the one on now was more likely to be the reason why the launch show performed poorly.

Tonight's should do decently assuming people actually tune in and notice that it's basically Takeaway with a bit of charity thrown in. Many are likely to stick with BBC1 due to the strong line up of a classic children's film and EE.

I'm beginning to wonder if the launch show did more harm than good. Tonight's show is infinitely better than the launch, and is basically Saturday Night Takeaway as you've said, but I wonder if the launch may have put a few people off.

The one thing in Text Santa's favour is that it's something that people can dip in and out of as they go about their Xmas Eve business or wait for the programmes they want to see to start.
