No problem and cheers for the explanation. Indeed some programmes have already surpassed 100,000 in primetime such as Hancock and Morecambe & Wise this past week, so I think it will be useful, especially when Celebrity Big Brother starts.
CBB is been heavily advertised on the moving billboards, it simplys say WHO WILL BE CHOSEN with the BB eye, the date and the 5 logo. It should do at least 4m at least on launch night.

Just want to say hope everyone on the Ratings Thread has a wonderful Christmas. I've loved reading this thread over the past year. Thanks to rzt and D.M.N. for all the tireless work you put in giving us the overnights each day - it's an absolute credit to you guys and this thread that it has become my essential ratings source, always way ahead of the traditional media sites (as well being far more accurate!).
Also special mentions to Robbie and George - the thread wouldn't be the same without you guys and your banter, I hope it continues for some time to come. And regular contributors - Charnham, Dancc, Fudd, GlennA, cylon6, iaindb, Score, Chris1964, Pizzatheaction, Jonwo, Georged123, C14E... I'm sure I've missed plenty but everyone who contributes and offers their analysis day after day have made this thread (all 29 parts!) such an entertaining read. Here's to the next 29!

Regarding Text Santa it seems the 7:30 to about 9:10 bit was recorded last night with Ant & Dec, the section after 9:10 was live tonight with Holly. It'd be interesting if the ratings dropped off. Most people wouldn't have noticed the join except for Ant & Dec strangly disappearing, although I suppose hosts come and go during CiN & RND.
The soaps seemed to suffer last night - especially the ITV ones! Jonathan Ross struggled but is probably a cheap programme; they need to work out other programming for him to host so he has an actual reason to be paid the amount he is...maybe they should've teamed him up with Christine Bleakely on Dancing On Ice? It could've been the show for expensive flops.

It was actually quite a nice show! A lot better than the launch show anyway. A feel-good kind of show which the whole family can gather round and enjoy before.
It was basically Saturday Night Takeaway with a charity Xmas element at the start though.
I agree with others, Text Santa didnt seem too bad from the 15-20 mins that I caught. It was basically Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway meets Noel's Christmas Parents with a sprinkle of charity telethon.
However, agreeing with Score, I think the preview show will have put off a lot of viewers. You dont put the worst clips of a show in a trailer to promote it when the show actually is pretty good. That being said, its been promoted a lot since, even saw it advertised on a cash machine the other day!

I always assumed it would turn out to be a show like it was, that was why I found it strange how much negativity was surrounding it as if it was the worst tv show ever made, even before the launch show had aired.

I suspect ill be spending Boxing Day putting up a wardrobe, so no question my family will be in an argument, it just wont be about ratings.
After that ive got to call HMRC, and find parts for my car. No rest for me this Christmas.

During the credits of EastEnders they shown quite a dramatic clip for tomorrow's 9:00pm episode

I'm not a regular on here but I've come here as my regular source of ratings since around 2008 (I ditched MediaGuardian as my source a long time ago) and I have to say thanks to everyone who makes the thread what it is.
My last post for the night or early morning - yes, it may determine ITV1's approach to Xmas, but we've seen robust Xmas schedules from ITV1 before, notably in 1998, 99 and a few other years. The key is maintaining it and will it get to a point were Downton reaches overkill because ITV want to produce more episodes; will Downton be ITV's secret asset like BBC's Doctor Who; can ITV resist not overdoing Downton like they did with several other hugely popular shows like Millionaire which had massive overkill in 1999/2000? All interesting questions, which will be shaped by the events of the next 24 hours and the ratings overnights.
Personally, what the BBC should've done with EastEnders is do two half-hour episodes; one at 5.30pm and one at 9pm, so people stick with the BBC1 schedule throughout the night instead of jumping ship to ITV1 for Emmerdale and Corrie.

Not sure why it was scheduled for 35 minutes, the episode wasn't any longer than 29 minutes.

Don't forget it's a domestic violance storyline and involves kidnapping and other things so maybe they thought it was a little too much for such an early slot. They have a 9:00pm slot boxing day also

I think Doctor Who is a strong enough pull in it's own right so should be fine at 7pm; especially against Family Fortunes! Rataouille could dent Emmerdale quite severely; Strictly has always done well opposite Coronation Street, so actually the show under most pressure is probably EastEnders at 9pm as it has unknown competition in Downton Abbey.

The Good = "this is Channel 5, and this is what we're about" is precisely the kind of message they need to get out
The Bad = not enough balance in the clips, far too much of stuff like Celebrity Wedding Planner and not enough of The Brigade, will give critics more ammunition "it's full of celeb trash" they'll say
The Ugly = massive flop show making it onto a highlights promo

I've heard of BBC One over-running at Christmas but under-running is a new one. I can't think why they scheduled it like that considering the BBC Three repeat was always 30 minutes in length.
That trailer does not inspire confidence at all, its mostly Jedwood, Big Brother and Amy. Oh and some large trucks.
