Fast Freddie did well under the circumstances I think considering the lead-in and the fact it was in the FlopZone.

Bit poor for BBC2's Three Men by past standards but it did seem to get very little promotion.

Be interested to see the ratings for the EE and Dr Who repeats yesterday afternoon.

Does anyone have a breakdown for EE (for figures and/or shares)?

It could well be c3m tonight with the Top Gear Special lead-in. Why on earth didn't they air ep1 tonight and get it off to a flyer with a c6m lead in rather than a 2m one?

I flicked between Big Fat Quiz and Three Men at 9pm last night; I have to say this men messing around in boats format is getting a bit tired now; we seem to have had 2 of them in the past 12 months, or is it 3?

Maybe viewers are tiring of TV programmes about boats. Are there any more big boating TV pieces coming up in 2012, I wonder....?

Good of them to list the names of all the viewers in the title.

"Flop Freddie" - that is a poor rating for such a heavily trailed festive highlight. I've not had ITV on much this past week - and why would I? - but when I've been forced to watch it, this drama seems to have been trailed in every ad break, particularly in the soaps. It should have done much better than that - it was only 0.8m ahead of Channel 4's end of year quiz!

And BBC2 were more effective at providing an alternate to Eastenders than ITV1 were.

That makes sense. I'd love to see the demos when the final ratings are published.

Probably one from C4, My Big Fat Gypsy Boat.

And maybe ITV will come up with something themed on Downton Abbey

There's been poor promotion for quite a few things on the BBC this Christmas. No promotion of the movie premieres on BBC1 apart from Bolt & 5 seconds for Ratatouille/Monsters v Aliens on a Christmas Day trailer, the Sherlock trailers not saying what time it's on and playing out before less popular BBC1 programmes this week,

Promotion is better than it was but people still decide on a show from a trailer not just flicking through a TV guide or scanning an EPG.

I'm baffled by this. Fair enough if it was 2 weeks away - "returns 01.01.12" is all well and good for building up to a big push, but it's on Sunday!

Perhaps it's all part of the "let's piss off Steven Moffat" campaign the BBC seems to be running?

Perhaps they thought that a timely promotion (as in what we would have expected) might not register too well amongst the Christmas programming and excesses. Perhaps they will begin a big push tonight ......

In all fairness, he did not seem at all hacked off when he appeared on BBC Breakfast last week. Very positive I thought. (and there was a clip from the new Sherlock).

That was before they wrongly reported that their own Doctor Who had been beaten by Downton Abbey - even though it hadn't been, actually led by nearly a million viewers, and could still end up the top show of the day once consolidated ratings come out.

what do you mean, by my math Tuesday night flop zone, continued last night. Emmerdale 6.7 everything else rubbish, Fast Freddie only just reaching 4 million.

Over on BBC 1, finally a genuine 10 million+ episode for EE
.

C4 and Worlds Strongest Man also did well.

Is that the report about the peak figures for DA beating those for DW, but also stating that the situation was reversed for the average viewing figures?

Excellent for BBC One and Channel 4 last night.

World's Strongest Man is doing really well this series for C5.

Quite funny that the highest rating EastEnders episode is the normal half hour Tuesday 7:30 one rather than any of the 9pm specials. The fact ITV ran a normal Tuesday filler against it will have helped.

Fast Freddie did decently enough considering it was a Tuesday and was up against a heavilly promoted major 3 part drama which is seen by many as the second biggest drama on this Christmas (behind DA obviously)

At the same time Great Expectations could probably have got 1m higher if it hadn't have been up against another drama.

Emmerdale obviously lower due to it clashing all week with much better programmes and films than The One Show.

Well, the BBC had to air the Xmas Day and Boxing Day episodes at that time in order to give other prominent programmes a lead in and a slot that didn't involve clashing with the ITV soaps, which continue to strangle bold new programming from the BBC, or at least severely limit the places in the schedule where they can effectively launch something new.

I see that Countryfile moves to Wednesdays this week and next. Be interesting to see how it rates there. I think it looks a fish out of water on Wednesdays, but maybe the BBC are using this fortnight as a test run to see if it can be moved freeing up space on Sundays for something new?

Or perhaps not...

Yes, the one that says DA was third and DW fourth and contains the following nonsense table to further emphasise the apparent victory for Downton:

Quote:
“Christmas Day viewing figures
1.EastEnders - BBC One - 10.2 million peak (9.9 million average)
2.Coronation Street - ITV - 9.9 million (9.3 million)
3.Downton Abbey - ITV - 9.1 million (8.6 million)
4.Doctor Who - BBC One - 9 million (8.9 million)
5.Queen's Speech - BBC One and ITV - 8.2 million (8.2 million)
6.Strictly Come Dancing - BBC One - 8 million (7.5 million)
7.Absolutely Fabulous - BBC One - 7.9 million (7.4 million)
8.Emmerdale - ITV - 7.1 million (6.7 million)
9.All Star Family Fortunes - ITV - 6.9 million (6.4 million)
10.The Gruffalo's Child - BBC One - 6.8 million (6.5 million) and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow - BBC One - 6.8 million (6.4 million)

Sam Hodges is not sure why they do 15-minute peaks as their top 10 either: https://twitter.com/#!/Sam_Hodges/st...68225639239682

Meanwhile, well done to the user (or lurker?) that is keeping this Twitter account updated.

The BBC News Christmas Day ratings articles have listed the most watched programmes in order of peak ratings for the last few years: 2010, 2008, 2007. They should do it in order of average in the future.

The trouble with 'industry standard' averages is that they underestimate the number of people actually watching the actual show on commercial TV.

All those who leave the room, channel hop, or same day timeshift and spin through the breaks, brings the average down.

With 25-30% of commercial TV being ads/promos there's a lot of viewing to lose in the averages.

Agreed, but at least that is corrected in the "officials", which is why commercial shows tend to appear to timeshift that little bit more...

I reckon FFTWAM probably would've been more around the 5m mark in a post-Corrie slot and not against another drama. Similarly, Great Expectations might've hit 7m if it hadn't been up against FF.”

That said apart from I'm a Celeb and Britain's Got Talent/Corrie it's probably one of their best Tuesday 9pm figures all year.
