BBC1's overnight weeknight slot average for 2011 was 4.8m, exactly the same as 2010. The first 3/4 of the year was particularly strong for BBC1, up decently from last year. The last quarter was relatively weak, down over 10% y-o-y. January was the highest rated month whilst October was the weakest. July and August experienced the biggest y-o-y rises, up an impressive 20%. October was the weakest, down 25%. In terms of days of the week, Wednesdays was (perhaps surprisingly) BBC1's top weeknight 9pm slot with the likes of The Apprentice and Frozen Planet performing strongly. Monday to Wednesday all were up 0.5m y-o-y. The weakest slot was Thursdays, down 0.8m y-o-y.

ITV1's overnight weeknight slot average for 2011 was 4.4m, slightly down from 4.5m for 2010. Worth noting however that excludes +1, with +1 included it was 4.6m for 2011. Q1, Q2 and Q4 were all broadly in line with each other. It was Q3 which suffered the biggest y-o-y drop, with August in particular easily being the lowest rated month of the year and suffering a very big drop of -32% y-o-y. In terms of y-o-y rises, September was the biggest. In terms of days, Mondays was their strongest night whilst Tuesday of course was clearly their weakest. Monday, Wednesday and Friday were roughly on par with last year. Tuesday experienced the biggest y-o-y drop, down -18% vs 2010, whilst Thursday experienced the biggest y-o-y rise (+10%).
In terms of BBC1 v ITV1, for at least the 6th year running BBC1 had the higher yearly overnight weeknight 9pm slot average, with the gap between the two channels slightly larger than last year (exc +1). To 2 decimal places, BBC1 won 6 months (Jan, Mar, Jun, Jul, Aug, Dec) whilst ITV1 won 6 months (Feb, Apr, May, Sep, Oct, Nov). BBC1 beat ITV1 on Tue, Wed, Fri whilst ITV1 did better than its competitor on Mon and Thu.
