It wasn't a flop. It definately didnt meet expectations in terms of ratings or quality (Children of Earth was miles better) but for something that was practically a US import to be in BBC1's weekly top 20 every week isn't terrible and definately not in the top 10 list of flops.

Yep, last year's peaked at 11.2m, so the peak audience was up +1.6m y-o-y.

The average most likely was about c11m, and the officials once BBC Scotland's audience is taken out will probably be about 10m.

Jools' Annual Hootenanny (BBC2) drew 2.82m (19.84%) including HD.

Last year's edition had 3.1m.

Too be fair it was only on for 20-25 minutes to see in the new year watch the fireworks and then leave again.

I think in the officials, which'll be around 10m (once factoring out BBC Scotland), it'll slot in at 16th place for 2011.

The audience peaking at 00:05 is slightly unusual. Although the average will definitely be in the Top 20, thus knocking Scott & Bailey out.

Yep, they probably had around 10% yesterday which must be down there amnongst their worst ever days.

Thanks dubsj. That's a good audience for Pirates of the Carribbean and MOTD, a solid NYE primetime for BBC1. Alan Carr's show did well. It'll Be Alright On The Night did okay - the share was similar to the previous episode. How did the Westlife repeat and The Cube get on earlier in the evening?

Between the fireworks on BBC 1, and Jools’ Annual Hootenanny on BBC 2, the other channels might as well just air a digital clock countdown to 2012.

Good night for BBC One while It'll be Alright on the Night did solid for ITV. Not so good for The Cube, lowest ever rating there, and after Westlife's first showing, I didn't expect much for the second showing. Alan Carr did very well for Channel 4.

Thanks. The Cube is a really inconsistent programme, halving its audience in a single week. It seems to rate best in an early 7pm timeslot (and usually it doesn't do that great anyway), the 8pm episodes never have done well.

A few other requests if you don't mind, did Winter Wipeout (BBC1) and the TV Burp and Bee Gees repeat (ITV1) do any well?

Great peak for the fireworks.
The fireworks themselves were pretty spectacular. That must have been a LOT of money!

Maybe the higher than usual peak because it might be the last ever time we will see it... sorry unwelcome Doomsday theories

Also anything for World's Strongest Man or the Magic countdown on C5 please. Considering the poor late film rating, I'm wondering if these two shows rated poorly as well

Nothing special but a lot better than a typical Saturday for them (unlike another commercial broadcaster I could mention) so they'll be happy with that.

Up The Front was a bizarre bit of scheduling though that will have cost them a bit share wise, luckily it was mostly out of primetime hours.

Glad Jools held up well compared to last year. Okay, so the guests were not as good as previous ones, but it's still by a country mile the best TV show to watch to see in the New Year for those staying in. It's also about the only time in the year we ever use the Picture in Picture feature of our Freeview box to keep an eye on the London fireworks too!

Stunning rating and peak for NYL, though I expected it to be slightly up as the Olympic Year fireworks were promised to be a bit special - and they certainly delivered on that! What a fantastic display to the world. Well done Boris.

Great night for BBC1, surprisingly, as I expected ITV's line up to outdo the cheap and lazy Pirates repeat on BBC1. To see first run shows trounced by a film repeat is a major turn-up; I certainly expected better from The Cube and "Alright 2" (as they dubbed it, though it must be about Alright 27 in reality).

Good for Jools, given the larger audience for BBC1, and the much later than normal 1.35am finish - which surely was always going to drive down the average.

At 25 minutes it contained enough padding as it was!

The 56% average share and 64% peak share for NYL are, of course, stunning, but how do these compare with previous years?

I would assume that only the BBC Royal Wedding coverage surpassed these eye-popping numbers in 2011? (The X Factor Finals were presumably miles off this year?)
