Watch the video. It pretty much says it all. Same music. A lot of the same moves....

We've only seen about 10 seconds of it!

That's a big accusation considering you haven't seen the dance yet. Which moves exactly would that be? Basic jive steps and that cartwheel lift thing which we've seen a million times before as well?
Probably every move on Strictly will have been used somewhere else already, I don't think the pro's are that innovative.
If H&A come out on Saturday dancing on a piano, now, that would be different.

Lol. So which are you, a Chelsee fan or a Jason fan?

Well suppose the bits we have seen from their showdance do seem similar ... although that said as Aliona is the weakest at choreographing out of the final three pro's then it would probably help if she looked (took inspiration) from a great routine.

I love that dance! It was the design-a-dance performance several DWTS seasons ago. For those who don't watch DWTS, mid season the public are asked to design a dance by voting online - they get to choose the male pro, female pro, dance, music and even costume. Derek Hough wins it all the time which makes it rather predictable, but I'd love it on Strictly - the easiest way to determine the most popular pros.

This dance was nominated for an Emmy award and rightly so - the Houghs are beyond amazing.

If Harry could dance anywhere near as well as Derek Hough then I wouldnt mind seeing them do this dance.....however I hope you are wrong because theirs would be a very very pale imitation.

Wow there really are a lot of psychic people here today, a lot of people making statements that can only be made if they've seen the whole showdance, which no-one has unless they're posting from Tower Ballroom rehearsals...

Same music: so what? No dancer has copyright on that song, Aliona can use it if she wants.

Same moves: Standard jive and swing steps are always going to be in a jive/swing dance....

You haven't seen all of the showdance, so you can't make such a sweeping claim. What's the point in all the Aliona-bashing threads today?

That's a subjective opinion, not shared by everyone, so please don't state it as fact.

I can't believe we are almost at the final and there are still threads like this being started on DS. Some people must have such sad lives!!

I stated it as my opinion as it was my post ... didn't realise that me stating an opinion would be taken as a fact ... I'm just not a fan of celebrities standing still while the pro does most of the dancing ... Harry is a great dancer when given the chance ... I just find it a shame he don't get to do it as much as the other two. All I was saying is that if Aliona has taken inspiration from that dance then hopefully it would show Harry's dance skills.

Chelsee and Pasha did the swingy-leg thing in their jive, and James and Pamela did the cartwheel thing (both him lifting her and her lifting him) in their Charleston IIRC. Did they nick those moves too?

Now if Aliona and Harry dance on a piano you might have a point but otherwise...

(Did anyone else gasp when the bloke went under the piano? Wow!)

so you have seen Aliona and Harrys complete showdance have you? To make an accusation like that?

Jason fan or a Chelsee fan?

Well I agree about the music being the same.

If you'd said very few of the same moves ..........

I'm sure that Derek meant to put in the 'heel slide' thing we've seen on Harry & Aliona's rehearsal VT - he just forgot.

I hate it when people use this emoticon, but I'm afraid my reaction on reading the OP was

That's one of my all time favourite routines and if Harry & Aliona can dance that choreography, then just hand them the glitter ball now.

Have you watched Harry's QS? Several pros have openly admired the level of dificulty. Watch the QS tomorrow night if you do not believe me. His progress has been amazing in this competition.

I was hoping this was a sequal to that AMAZING Famous Five sketch from the semis-finals. I'm so disappointed.

Yes but with more lifts. I think Aliona is making a mistake. Kristina and Pasha seem to know their partners well and so are choreographing show dances to their comfort zones and strengths. I don't like the song Aliona has chosen and the rock and roll theme seems quite dull to me. But I guess we will find out tonight! I think Harry is the most talented, it's a shame this showdance can make or break u.

When I heard Aliona and Harry's showdance music and that it was going to be based on Jive elements, I immediately thought of Julianne and Derek's dance. I said on 'Final Dance' thread that I hope it's not too similar because Harry/Aliona's would suffer in comparison. Julianne and Derek's dance is perfect.

BUT, we've not seen Harry and Aliona's showdance, so there's still hope that it's something original.

It's jive/swing, not rock n roll.

I really don't see how anyone can say it's a copy when we haven't seen the whole showdance yet - how on earth can you deduce that from a few clips?!

I also think people are forgetting that the comparison is basically irrelevant - almost everyone watching Strictly tonight will not have seen Derek and Julianne's dance, in fact probably won't even have heard of them! So why should the fact that it's potentially similar matter at all?

But...BUT... It's also the same music that Karen Hardy & Gary Rhodes did their Jive to. They're surely taking a MASSIVE risk by trying to recreate a dance as epicmayzing as that one.

What?

Hardly stolen (esp on what little we have seen of it).
Dances from one series to another have plenty of repeated moves in it, whether it be the specifically contented dances or the freestyle showdance. It would be quite a rare thing to see a truly unique dance on Strictly (or any other foreign version of it) were all the moves in it had never been seen before.

I only saw 1 step in HA's showdance on ITT last night which also appears in Julianne and Derek's dance, and that is a standard jive step called "double ball change" which is a very common competitive figure. (it's the one which kind of looks like a New Yorker, but with the outside legs forward instead of the inside legs.)
