Avicii - Levels
Just wondering what is supposedly so great about this song? Everyone I know seems to be raving about it but I don't see what's so great about it. It sounds like a generic dance track to me. Am I the only person who doesn't see the appeal?

You know what's funny, he keep sending out these songs for people to write over, then as soon as they get a release he decides to release his own version... (Collide/Fade into Darkness then Good Feeling/Levels) Do we know if he tried to sue Flo Rida like he did with Leona/Syco? |

I think it's probably because people like Good Feeling by Flo Rida, but not with Flo Rida on it haha.

Is Good Feeling similar to Levels?

Yeah, they both sample Etta James as well (Something's Got a Hold On Me). I think the instrumentation is a little different (like Collide and Fade into Darkness - but it's practically the same, I think demo of Flo Rida's was actually done OVER Levels)

The original version of Good Feeling, from back in the summer was just Flo Rida rapping over Levels, but the version that's now been released and is on the radio is slightly different. It still samples Etta James, but has a guitar-esque beat instead of Avicii's one.
Avicii wouldn't sue Flo Rida. Avicii is pro-sampling! I mean, it'd be hypocritical for him to sue Flo Rida for sampling him when he himself sampled Etta James on the song that got sampled! ![]() He sued Leona because there was a mis-understanding/mis-communication in what was actually being sampled. He's not against the concept of sampling, he was probably just a bit surprised that Leona was singing over his exact instrumental I guess. As a dance/hip hop producer, you can't be against sampling, since it's a fundamental part of those genres. But anyway, I quite like Levels. I think the hype is from it being such a huge holiday tune in the summer. It may not be the best dance song ever, but a lot of people will associate fond memories with the song.

Autumn Rowe who wrote the track was on the same publishing thing as him, so I assumed that's how she got a hold of Penguin - then submitted it (and why she kept saying Avicii was aware of her writing for the track). Either way, I do prefer Levels to Good Feeling - I totally forgot it was the same Flo Rida demo which was out a while ago haha. I'm just not a fan of him, which is why I prefer Avicii's 'version' of it

I like Bromance, but my favourite version is the XNRG cover version of the vocal edit, Seek Bromance, from Clubland.

Why did it take so long for a UK release of Levels? It was released in Ireland at end of August/early September?

When did it come out in the UK?
It was actually supposed to be released in January 2012 in the UK initially, but I think with Flo Rida's song being released, they thought it would be good to release Avicii's version at the same time. Since both songs are so similar, them both being out at the same time would help each other, a bit like Jay-Z and Alicia Keys both had Empire State of Mind out at the same time. |

I think it's a good tune, it just got overplayed like all the big tunes do, and I got bored of it. Quote:

Not normally a fan, but I really like Levels and the original song by Etta James.
