The main lights went out but I don't think all the lights. They were probably still rigging things for the main programme.
It always used to be standard practice for an important OB like that to have at least one standby generator though from the reports of the Royal Variety Performance just over a week ago it looks as if they don't bother now.
Weather looks to be easing off slightly as the day goes on. Always been windy at Blackpool so I am sure the Beeb are well prepared. 
The 'insider' (aka a Mirror journalist) clearly doesn't know that Blackpool is battered by bad weather sweeping in from the Atlantic and the Irish Sea on a regular basis, especially in winter. My parents-in-law lived there for years so I know the place well. Live shows or news feeds transmitted from Blackpool will be prepared for all eventualities, and I refuse to be alarmed by the Mirror's blatant scare-mongering.
