I've just realised that Born This Way is over 6 months old, how time flies!

So I thought that I would make a thread where people could leave their lasting opinions and impressions of the album and it's songs.

Personally, I know that my opinion has changed a lot from when the album was released. Six months ago, I must admit that I wasn't hugely impressed with the album. I was of the opinion that The Fame Monster was a better album, as it had catchier and more commercially oriented tracks. My favourite songs at the time were Scheiße, Born This Way and Electric Chapel.

However, after a lot of repeated listening, my opinions have transformed. I really have fallen in love with (some of) the album. I can honestly say that the Edge of Glory, Hair, Marry the Night, Fashion of His Love and Marry the Night especially are songs that I will love to listen to for a long time to come.

On the more negative side, it must be said that Scheiße is a song I can barely listen to any more. I find it quite samey and the faux-German seems really lazy to me. Also, there are about 5-7 tracks too many on the album and I find that the albums length (and filler songs like Bad Kids and Highway Unicorn imho) really dilutes it's message.

Overall though, I really like the album and it has now eclipsed The Fame Monster as my favourite Gaga album.

I would give Born This Way an 8/10.

I would give it 8/10 too.

It's an excellent album, definitely one of the best of 2011 too.

I can understand why some people (especially not avid fans) find it hard to grasp. It has a very strong concept, quite a change from "The Fame". However I do think "The Fame Monster" was a taste of what was to come next.

I give it about a 8.5/10. I used to love it but time has only went on to make me realize that I don't like Heavy Metal Lover, Electric Chapel and You & I. The rest is glorious, though.

True my opinion has changed alot at first i thought it was good but all over the place with themes and concepts just shoved in a t random but now i realised it's a huge progression from The Fame/Monster it's more self reflective and introverted but also relatable to most people on a wider level okay the accompanying singles and video's have not been her best but overall a great album and a n even greater progression interesting to see where she goes next.

7/10

I love it, one of my favourite ever albums probably but it suffered from the crazy hype. Unfortunately Gaga doesn't seem to have learned her lesson and is already bigging up her next record

It hasn't left a lasting impression on me at all
It's an ok album but disappointed in places. But i am glad she didn't do just another typical pop album.

I've liked it from the start - since blasting the leak in the wee hours on my headphones - but there was a slight initial underwhelming feeling. Since though, I've grown to love it track by track. I even like the weaker songs now, making BTW one of a few albums that I actually like the entire track-list on some level...especially impressive considering it's 17 tracks long. If

For me, the track-list should have been;

Marry The Night
Born This Way
Government Hooker
Americano
Judas
Hair
Scheisse
Bloody Mary
Heavy Metal Lover
Electric Chapel
You & I
The Edge of Glory

Bonus:

Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
The Queen
Fashion For His Love
Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)
Bad Kids
Born This Way (Country Road Version)

I wouldn't have included the remixes on the deluxe version, leaving them to BTW: The Remix. I also think she should have released an acoustic EP (Hair, TEOG, MTN, BTW, Y&I) and done a full, proper Holiday album in 2012.

In hindsight, the singles have been what really screwed things up for this album. The promo singles were unnecessary, the single order was sloppy and she led the era with the wrong choices.

#1 Marry The Night (February - Grammys/Brits debut)
#2 The Edge of Glory (May - alongside album)
#3 Born This Way (August - VMA)
#4 Scheisse (November - XF US/UK)
#5 You & I (February - Grammys/Brits)

Anyways, I think the album is underrated because it was overrated. If that makes sense. A lot of folk threw it under the bus because of the hype, to the point where I don't think they gave it a proper chance. Especially some critics ("0" metacritic rating? Mature.)

I'm glad that she got to voice her opinion, make an album full of heart that's intrinsically her. Interscope obviously gave her a free reign with it. I'm also glad that it's selling well and that it's up for some Grammys.

I agree with this, it is a solid album...but all the 'best album of all time' hype before its release from GaGa, her management and fans turned people against it.

That didn't help granted but i think it's major downfall was the lack of consistent single releases or a big huge single BTW and TEOG were commercially viable but not in the same way as just dance, poker face, or bad romance etc also BTW wasn't as commercial as the fame/monster so it was harder for her to win round new fans and bring back casual fans

the songs are great and its a different material from her earlier material and opposite of what today's music is trending. i see that gaga's little monsters have started a facebook campaign to have marry the night chart better. as itunes plays a big part on the billboard charts. so gaga has a strong supporting fanbase. but has it ever occured that people already have the album as a whole. as it is mtn did receive some downloads the opening week release.

but i heard it was gonna be the lead single but the title track was the lead single and became a massive success. i think mtn would've been a great success as the 2nd single but it was judas. the edge of glory was a great success and the 4th single you and i was great in the u.s. but gaga has marry the night as the next single and will perform similarly to her other singles????

i heard at one point gaga wanted to release 9 singles but is 5 enough for the era???? it is first time that gaga has ever released 5 singles from any of her albums. because her debut was 4 singles and her 2nd album was 3 singles. now this album has 5. can the 5th be a success???

6 months on I'm only listening to Edge of Glory, Americano, Hair and You & I really.

Fame/Monster get a lot more plays by me still, I'd rate the album 6/10

Far too much filler

I agree, the album is far too long. It is however, more consistent than The Fame/Monster which had some real duds.

All I really want for her now is to go on tour and then take her time with her next album so she can really amaze everyone. I don't want to see another one released until mid 2013, maybe even later.

I think it's a consistent pop album. It's less ''singles based'' as her previous albums.

By that I of course mean it has less filler - The Fame Monster had Teeth, Monster and So Happy I Could Die, and The Fame had... well, most of it was filler.

It's not one of the best, and it's probably not my favourite pop album of recent years (Blackout and Rated R beat it out for me) but it's definitely up there.

Based on the material alone on the album, I would rate it 7/10.

Based on everything involved in the album campaign including music videos, single choices, etc. I would rate it 7/10, but that might rise once I've seen the tour.

i do give credit to gaga for bringing back real music from the 80's of pop and rock. so i do give her all the credit she deserves. she's not alone. adele (with her soul sounds), beyonce (with bringing back r&b sounds from the 70's, 80's and 90's) and katy perry (with her current album having some teen pop sounds that britney and christina would release) have done it.

When I first bought the album I wasn't too sure about it and only really liked the singles. I didn't like it much on first listen but the more I listened to it the more I liked it. I can't stand You & I and I didn't really like Marry The Night until recently. I also wasn't sure about Highway Unicorn (Road to Love) but it's not really that bad. Out of the deluxe bonus tracks The Queen is not great but the other two are good. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion is my favourite deluxe track.

8/10

I like most of the tracks, but some I can't listen to. Favourites are The Edge of Glory, The Queen and Judas. I'd give the album 7/10.

She tried too hard. Style over substance.

I think it's a good album. It's not great, it's just good. She failed to develop as an artist, imo. Every song on the album just sounds like it wasn't good enough to make it on The Fame Monster (if I recall, Electric Chapel didn't make the cut).
I don't blame her, the curse of the second album gets almost everyone (look at Pixie Lott...)

I thank her for bringing attention to Madonnas express yourself when bringing out the song and also the little homage she did at the end of the video ...

edge of glory is her best song yet in my opinion even tho it rips the melody from chers "song for the lonely "

Electric Chapel was a 2010-written song.

I might be getting it wrong, but I definitely read that a couple of songs didn't make the cut of TFM.

I think that the ones that were outtakes from the Fame Monster were reworked for Born This Way but were outtaken again. See; No Way.

I love the album as much now as I did back when I bought it. and songs such as marry the night and americano, which I weren't originally fond of have really grown on me. I think I the Fame Monster still has better stand out tracks, but as a whole, BTW is a much stronger album in my opinion.
