Apparently album went up to #7 on today's midweeks and has a good chance to sell over 100K!

I believe it sold nearly 82,000 up until last night which carries it well over the 300,000 mark.

Incredible sales figures. Nobody would have predicted them. Rebecca will be rolling in money already, with not a penny more owed to anybody and she really deserves it.

Not sure about that, although going by the marketing campaign (very light) and the sales figures I imagine she is at least on her way to have a decent income for a while.

300k sales is surely way above the invest recoup mark. It's about 2.4m over the counter. How much do you think it cost to record, press, distribute and market that album? I'd guess (and admittedly it is a bit of a guess) less than half that amount. It leaves a lot of profit and if the artist receives 75p per copy sold above, say, 150k, that would add up to a lot of money. Add that to an advance already repaid and a money-spinning tour on the near horizon. Then there's the endorsements that will surely come her way as let's face it, she's a marketer's dream. Yes, I think we can farely confidently say that she is already very well off and soon to be very wealthy by the standards of most. Good on her I say. She deserves it.

She'll be taking lots of money off of royalties. She co wrote every song. And that equals $$$$$$$

Yes but artists just don't make that much money off album/single sales any more. The fact that she co-wrote everything will help but she's not going to be filthy rich off one album that's gone platinum.

She's touring next year though and if that sells well (which I presume it will) then she'll make a fair amount from that.

It was reported by Gordon Smart in The Sun a while back that Rebecca was in line for a lucrative publishing deal:

Last year's champ, Matt Cardle, put pen to paper on a deal with Sony last week for what is thought to be around 300,000.

But runner-up Rebecca is attracting offers of up to 1million from the big three Sony, Universal and EMI.

That was before the release of her album. I imagine the success of 'Heaven' will help seal the deal, if it hasn't already been signed.

I remember reading that and thinking that was purely marketing from Syco to try to free promote the album. Not so sure now. Probably not 1m but I would not be surprised if something very substantial.

Of course artists make money off album and single sales. It depends on how many are sold. Nobody mentioned anybody being filthy rich. It's a relative thing of course. We may have very wealthy contributors to this thread, millionaires even and that would skew things. However, I still contend that by the standards of most, given the performance of her album, she is now a fairly wealthy woman, no doubt very soon (within weeks possibly) to be a millionaire. Bear in mind also that we live in a society in which most wealthy citizens are officially upto their eyeballs in debt.

Why not 1m? Absolutely plausible and anybody who can't see why is probably in the right business.

I'm pretty sure that Jedward were both millionaires within a year of winning the X Factor, not through record sales though. In Rebecca's case I think the publishing income would contribute a lot to her financial security from the get-go.

Of course. She will have independent advisors and their priority will have been to extract ringfenced monies in advance of performance. obvious stuff really. It all depends upon how much companies will gamble and my hunch is that there will have been competition among companies willing to to gamble / invest a lot. Furthermore, those who did gamble / invest will be in profit already.

I'm really pleased for her, she's proved that the way to get rid of the 'reality act' tag is to put out good music that stands on its own!

I have been playing 'Heaven' all day driving my family mad, what a great album it is, I loved it from the first play, it is better than I ever expected. What a truly talented lady she is and what a voice.
Merry Christmas to all Rebecca fans.

Album at #9 sold over 100K so Rebecca may have reached 110-120k! Surely over 330K in total.

My mum got three copies of "Heaven" for Christmas She told literally everyone that she wanted it. Anyways, I listened to it in the car a couple of days ago and it's a lovely album. Not sure whether I like it enough to buy it, but the more I hear from Rebecca the more I'm liking her
