It's not the song (an overweight, monotonous, self-indulgent cliche that 'Rock Star' is) that undermines Nickleback's credibility, it's allowing DFS of all companies to use the track that undermines them. It could have been any Nickleback song used by DFS and it would still be a supposedly cool (to some people?) US rock band soundtracking some of the shittiest commercials ever made.
On the other hand, if 'Rock Star' had been lent to, say, Coca Cola, I doubt anyone would have questioned Nickleback's credibility. You have to pick and choose a bit more carefully, and not be greedy pigs who go for the first shitarse company who throws a bunch of pound notes at you.
