Honest opinions here;

I know that some Gaga fans and haters will come in here and say its a disapointment or even a flop. But honestly, i'm not calling the era a disapointment or flop because it's not in terms of sales wise. Some would sum up the era so far both commercially and artistically as disappointing. I can see what they're saying because they wanted her to continue on with the same material she did with the fame and the fame monster era. but the fans did very much enjoy the 1st single the title track which stormed up the Itunes chart and spent six weeks at #1. It was mixed to positive by critics and compared it to Madonna negatively ala express yourself. But that was still a success to begin the era in style so no problems for the fans.

Here comes the negative, with the unbelievable underwhelming response for the 2nd single "Judas"...it's as if it didn't even exist. The video was good, but it got poor receiption by the fans and it debuted and only peaked in the top 10. The reason it debuted in the top 10 because of strong digital downloads and it hardly received airplay. This was gonna be her version of Like a Prayer where you shock everybody but that didn't happen that way. Her fans and haters hated it and it's in fact her video from this era to have the most views on youtube.

Her next single was released like 3 weeks later which was "The Edge of Glory" on the album and it did well on radio and became mega debuting and peaking in the top 5, but that's about it right? It failed to go to #1 my guess is probably the video wasn't interesting really not even the guy who played the saxaphone in the video couldn't make it go number one despite him dying shortly after making the video. i think it was still massive.

Then there's the album sales...her label had to make sure the 1st week sales were huge and they did EVERYTHING they can to make sure it happened. But boy did that backfire. The .99 cent sale actually made controversy as it was widely reported and people felt like it was Gaga's idea but no it was Amazon's idea. Even the haters were like Gaga's doing it because she might think the album sucks or is cheating her way to be up their with the greats of all time and it managed to sell a million in the 1st week selling 1.1 million as the amazon deal sold over 440,000 copies.

Even prior to the album she would declare the album as the album of the decade. and boy were people scratching their heads about that comment once the album came out. i wouldn't say this is the album of the decade because there can be a few albums out there that are better.

Now the album has slowed down in sales and it bearly sold 2 million here in the states. Also shown weak legs and even the VMA's have taken note of this overall underwhelming era with only 3 nominations. She even dressed up as a guy at the VMA's which I thought she's one of the few people who's fearless.

As did the Grammys as well putting her up with three nominations and in all three she's up against Adele who's been the biggest star this year. She's up for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. Those are gonna be hard for Gaga to win even Rihanna did well with her Loud album as well. So Gaga is gonna be up against real competition but am sure she's pleased she's even nominated for the third time for AOFTY. I dont know if third time will be the charm because Adele is expected to sweep all her categories. The dance category axed her as did the music video category as well.

The fourth single, You and I was a success reaching the top 10 but it wasn't a BTW OR TEOFG type of hit. But it was still hit and of course it did flop in some countries. As a matter of fact in the some countries Judas was a better success than You and I.

Now Marry the Night is the current single and the video was long as 13 minutes. I think this her version of Thriler. However, the song is falling apart on the iTunes charts in the Staes and Gaga's so called Little Monsters have began a Facebook campaign to make the song chart better. Do you want the song to at least have a better position than Judas? TBH, I think its a good song probably one of the biggest standouts from BTW album aside from TEOG but Gaga was gonna release as the lead single but the title track's message is what caught her eye to have it as the lead single. Maybe she should've released as the lead single because it still would've met with similar success as the title track and the title track would've still met simlar success if she would've released as the second single. Then Judas as the third single, well I dont know about it being a success as the third single. But TEOG would've still met alot of success of course. As could've You and I as well. So far Gaga has had Billboard success with 11 consecutive top 10 hits now can she continue with 12????

The only thing I can stay is that Gaga has chosen the right singles but imho maybe she had them in the wrong order maybe that's why radio has kind of slowed down in playing her music and she was titled the most overrated artist of the year. which i think some of the other singers should get that title and gaga doesn't even deserve it but am sure it doesn't bother her.

By the way, going back to Marry The Night flopping, hasn't it ever occured to Gaga that what if people already have the album as a whole and plus when the album came out MTN recieved strong digital downloads. She's not even a singles artists like Katy Perry and RIhanna. Though her singles go a million right away. she's an albums artist like beyonce and adele. It moved up on the BIllboard charts at no.29. Let's hope it rises but who knows how will it go. maybe if i feel generous maybe i'll buy mtn even though it came with my btw album i got the first day of its release.

i heard that lady gaga wants to release 9 singles from this album which will be a little hard because most of her fans already own the album as a whole and as i said again she's not considered a singles artist she can also sell albums as well.

Some good points, but also some points that I really disagree with.

You said that Gaga picked the right songs as single. I really disagree. Judas and You & I should NEVER have gotten single time. Those songs aren't a patch on Marry the Night, The Edge of Glory, Scheiße & Hair. I think the relatively disappointing public reception and sales of those songs reflect that they were poor choices.

Had Gaga released MTN or TEOG after Born This Way, I am convinced that she would have scored a second number 1 single off of the album and from there she could've released more and more successful singles. It really boggles my mind that Judas and You & I (especially) were released at all. What was the Lady thinking!?! Any eejit could've told you that You & I would be a flop internationally.

Regarding the album, I agree that her incessant over-hyping damaged the album. It was total overkill. Also, her album was way too long. There should have been 10 songs maximum on the standard edition and then the rest with the Bonus Track edition.

And yes, this era has been disappointing. Very much so.

gotto be honest..... for me fame was a cracking fresh piece of pop....melodic, catchy, fun and immediate. Fame Monster was an album of its own. It was a move on from fame - using the great elements of fame and condensing it alligned to some of the best pop moments in the last 20 years e.g. ace of base, madonna, britney spears, eurtyhmics. Born This way was most definetly the album to establish LG as an artist - it was her attempt at a 'Like a Prayer' status. She didnt quite make that gravitas but it is great in its own right. The expectation/hype plighted its path. A greater lyrical/subcontext feel and darker rock alligned dance/pop feel. And the album was a grower. Conclusion - love all 3 albums in very different ways! But the real testing ground is her 4th adventure....if she is really smart...she will go more accoustic and orchestral than dance/pop

I'm glad Lady Gaga has not been as successful as she was in 2009, because I don't tihnk she deserved the success she had back then, as her songs were really, really poor (in my opinion).

But that said, this era has been successful. She's sold so much, and is the 2nd biggest artist of the year behind Adele. Her fans have too high expectations of her, which is a shame, because they're just going to be disappointed repeatedly from now on. It's practically impossible for ANYONE to be as big as Gaga was in 2009 in this day and age.

Man Down by Rihanna was released as a single in the US earlier this year, and it peaked at #59. That's more of a flop than anything Lady Gaga has ever experienced so far, yet Rihanna fans didn't seem to care. They were just like "Oh, it's a shame it didn't do better", and moved on. Lady Gaga fans would be a lot more content if they had that attitude imo.

About her single choices, I think they've all been good, apart from Judas. Obviously, we didn't know what Judas sounded like until they released it, so, unlike with the post-album singles, they don't know if people like the song until it's already been made a single. But they shouldn't have released it, since most of the general public didn't like the song.

You and I was one of Lady Gaga's best single choices ever. She released 10 dance/electro songs in a row. It's ABOUT TIME she released something a bit different. You and I was a breath of fresh air, and was different to what all the other pop girls were doing. Maybe it wasn't a good idea for a single in Europe, but it was a FANTASTIC choice for the US, and it did very well in the charts. It also went in the top 10 on iTunes on the album release week, so they had little choice, but to release it tbh.

You & I should never have been a single. I'm surprised it was even released. Judas is not a bad song though. I think Scheisse should have been released after Edge of Glory or even Americano which is a good dramatic sounding song.

I remembered reading your post when I found out that some monsters are trying to create a campaign to boost the sales of 'Marry The Night'.If it's true then you were right about everything you said.They need to relax and realize that an artist can only sell like hot cakes for so long.

I pretty much agree with post #2 from McMonsterMan, she could've trimmed it down to 10 or 11 tracks, and shouldn't have released You & I as a single.

I'm not really a "fan" or a "hater". Her first album was full of great pop songs. This album has been bad to mediocre IMO. I haven't really liked one song from it. it's as if someone else wrote the first album...maybe they did.

I don't know what you're insinuating here.

She's still the co-writer and RedOne (who arguably gives her her biggest hits) did a few songs on the new album, so he hasn't left at all. Fernando Garibay (who did my best song on TFM, Dance in the Dark) is working on it too, so it's really the same team who gave her great songs.

Michael Buble's "Christmas" is just 7,000 copies behind "Born This Way" for 2nd biggest selling album of the year in the US after just 2 months on sale. He will easily pass her by next week, pushing her to 3rd. Both are still trailing well behind Adele.

amazon has also reduced the price for marry the night. so i dont know whose idea was it to reduce the price of the song. but i must say that maybe amazon wants the song to maybe be a hit.

I think it's past the point of being a hit now. Let's just call it what it honestly is and that's her 2nd flop in a row in the UK and her first fully fledged flop worldwide. She should just leave this album behind now.

I have to disagree with those saying You and I shouldn't have been a single. It's one of her best decisions because she managed to use that song to appeal to a wider audience. Eg my grandmother loves that song and she had no interest before seeing her singing that on Jonathon Ross and she's now also a fan of Marry The Night.

I know Judas wasn't as popular but I still think it's a cracking pop song and I prefer it to Born This Way, Alejandro and Americano which are her three worst songs to date. And I'm a huge Gaga fan but I hate them all.

Well you and i was quite a success in the u.s. judas didnt really flop. A flop would be like not cracking the top 10.
