Hey! I bought some ghd's about a year ago, and was pretty disappointed with them, i heard they were the best straighteners around but mine just didnt seem to straighten my hair as good as they shouuld. they were white with pink flowers on and they were limited edition ones. however i went to a hairdressers the other day and the lady there used some ghd's to straighten my hair and they were amazing, so im wanting some new ones!! which ghd's are the best? Thankyou pls

i am a bloke. but i got my wife some.

there are a lot of fakes around, according to the GHD website - we got my wife's from a proper hairdresser's to make sure, and she loves them.

they cost about £100

Mine are good, they're a black, thin pair but don't know the model number, sorry. Last winter I thought they'd packed up because they beeped constantly, but I found out that they won't turn on if the room temperature is too cold.

I think straightening is all about technique - yes the quality of the straightener is important but the technique is pretty important too. When you next go to the hairdressers check what products she uses, does she use serum, heat protectant, how big does she do the sections etc. Also just ask your stylist what straightener she uses.

I got my straighteners from Argos, they cost less than £5 and I can honestly say they straighten my hair better than GHD's.

Do you have long or short hair? Do you straighten every day? Is your hair thick etc?

I have had mine for over a year now and as my technique has improved, they are just as good as the day I got them x

I've had mine for 5 years and love them. I have the wide plate ones as I have long thick curly hair and they are far and away the best straighteners I have ever used. Another plus they're dual voltage so I just put a plug convertor on them and I can use them over here too.

Tried other makes before, but would never part with these!

I'll have had mine 7, yes SEVEN!, years in Feb! They're definitely not as good as they first were, which isn't surprising considering how old they are and the amount of times they've been dropped, crammed into suitcases etc... think I'll have to invest in some new ones soon!

I have 2 pairs of GHDs, both black. One wide plate, as my daughter has thick curly hair and medium ones for myself.

I've always bought them from here look fantastic

Very good prices and delivery was brilliant. I've had them for years.

I replaced my GHDs last year after having them for seven years too. The new ones beep when they are ready, have a curved end which makes it easier to curl with them and they have an auto shut off.

When they broke it was like a military operation in my house until I had an new pair exactly 45 minutes later.

My hairdresser calls GHDs Great Hair Destroyers as they get so hot. He won't use them.

I have very thick wavy hair and I use Andrew Collinge straighteners which I got from Argos for about £20 and they work brilliantly. GHDs are very over-rated and far too expensive in my opinion.

This is is why I won't touch GHD's, I couldn't use a straightener without temperature control.

I am surprised nobody else has pointed this out. I'm sure your GHDs are fine but you just aren't using them properly. Like Lushness said, ask your hairdresser to show you how to do it.

I think a lot of it is down to adequately protecting the hair with the right products too. Hair is basically dead protein and cannot be expected to withstand the rigours we put it through. I use GHDs every day and my hair is professionally bleached but doesn't look damaged in any way.

It's a styling tool not a bloody magic wand!

That is absolutely essential yes, but what is also important is having an awareness of what your hair can tolerate. You can use as much heat protectant as you like but if your hair can't withstand regular heat the hair will suffer for it regardless of how well you try and protect it.

I have a pink pair somewhere and were really disapointed in them however I am sure the hairdresser I last went to used the Diamond type and I was very impressed indeed.

I bought a GHD straightener about 9 years ago. And I can honestly say it is the best £100 I have spent. My hair is naturally wavy so it needs straightening most days but with the Lee Stafford hair products I have it helps to keep my hair in place. But in the past year or so I have found it quite tiresome having to spend so much time straightening my hair as it takes about half an hour. I've decided that sometime this year I am going to get my hair naturally straightened at the hairdressers.
