I'm curious as to what the general consensus would be

Do you think Brucie should step down or be replaced?

Yes

No

Personally I say no.

No. He's not quite the force he was, but I still think he's brilliant. Two fluffed lines in two hours of live TV last weekend isn’t bad.

Nooooo, you can't axe Bruce until he leaves. He's a TV legend, and he should stay for as long as he can. Go Brucie!!!!!!!!!!

Very disappointing to see that most people want to keep him!

I wonder how you would feel if the same poll was run at your place of work to decide if people wanted you or not ?

I reckon Vernon Kaye would be ideal. But then we'd still be stuck with Tess...

At the same time as those in the normal working world have campaigned for people to be able to continue working past a retirement age ?

I'm sure that Bruce has developed a reasonably thick skin during his 70 odd years in showbiz It can be a cruel profession, after all.

81 is way past retirement age - it it any wonder new talent have to wait - Bruce has had his day and should have retired years ago

So Bruce hosting one show for 14 weeks a year is preventing new talent forwarding themselves in the entertainment industry ? Why is the same not said in the private sector where statuatory retirement ages have been abolished employees can no longer be forced to retire on age alone.

Yes - and the sooner the better.....

I was just reminded on another thread just how much he was missed when he flounced off the Generation Game... only to be replaced by Larry Grayson who steered the show to its highest ever ratings...... wiping the floor with Bruce's rival show on ITV which was cancelled after its first series

We had all the "The show won't be the same without Brucie!" whinging back then too - and you know what??? They were absolutely right - it wasn't the same without him - it was miles better!

What's the point of all this?

He'll be back next year.

Yep, Fire the old goat out of a cannon like they did with Russell! and while they're at it, they can stick Chelsee and her annoying voice in there too!!

It’s perfect as it is. The Executives at the BBC want Sir Brucie to stay, he wants to stay and I‘m happy watching him stay.

I'm happy to for him to stay until he wants to leave. It would be a shame if he didn't do next year because it is the 10th anniversary series.

It was that sort of ageist attitude that saw popular newsreaders like Moira Stewart and Julia Somerville being replaced by younger women. Do you think that all older stars should be replaced when they get to what you call, "way too old"?

Yes - 81 is way too old - I cannot recall any female entertainers of this age - mainly male - hence my comment

The annual 'Get rid of Brucie' comments have now been turned into a poll!

He's 81 and I still think he is the right person for the job. The week when he was sick and Tess hosted with Claudia backstage showed that the show was not the same without him.

Leave him be. Was I the only one who got that he was joking around at the McFly blokes, pretending to treat them like naughty boys and shooing them off the stage? He was having a laugh, he wasn't upset, angry and or disturbed at all. He was joining in the fun. He was probably delighted to have a laugh at it all when it was so serious with the award giving and pats on backs which are so very often boring and predictable moments on television.

Bruce knows how to handle a stage and audience helping entertainment fun along. Why so serious about getting a younger (and maybe prettier chap?) compare in just because some have no understanding there's room for people of all ages broadcasting to the nation. Makes me wonder if some wouldn't like to see the death carousel for all humans at the age of 30 like the book/film Logan's Run.

What, I wonder, are the age ranges of viewers? Surely many enjoy the representation of age and his sense of comedy in Bruce? I'm not a pensioner, btw.

I don't think Bruce should step down and be replaced unless his bosses want him out, or he decides to stop working.

If he goes on and on there's always the (almost remote) possibility that he could drop dead live on air.

Yeees, he hardly read one sentence correctly during the final! Sorry, if he's paid a massive amount of money to present, he should be able to do it properly.
