Do You Eat Out For Xmas Lunch?
If so, how much do you pay and do you think it's worth it?
Would you pay this much..... http://www.the-berkeley.co.uk/Marcus...tmas-2011.aspx |

We did eat out for Christmans lunch a a couple of times a few years ago. Paid between £40 and £50
Don't think I'd pay the prices quoted but then if you've got the money................... |

I would hate to eat out on Christmas day. For me, Christmas is all about being at home and eating home-cooked food.

My Neighbours on both sides eat out at a Pub for Christmas dinner; it seems odd to have a service like this on Christmas day anyway, Im not too taken with the idea, though its tempting not to have the washing up, but as I use a carvery often anyway, it wouldnt seem very special, you know?

I was shocked to see a Chinese (takeaway, not restaurant) has a big sign up in the window saying "We're open Christmas Day....now taking pre-orders". Now I can see if you maybe had a few too many shandies and burnt the turkey you might order a takeaway as a last resort....but the pre-order thing threw me!

I dont think I could go "out" to a hotel or pub to eat Xmas dinner, Ive cooked at home, been to relatives houses but never anywhere else. Xmas lunch to me is everybody sitting round the table enjoying the food, having other people there I dont know just seems wrong. I like to be able to get what I want for my meal, have veg I want and have the amount I want, at a pub or hotel its more of a one size fits all and it wouldnt work for me

We are eating out for the first time as my daughter was fed up with everyone expecting her to cook. She did it once and then they expect it every year. Last year I turned down a Christmas dinner at hers because it wasn't fair to her. This year we are eating out for £43 each

Saw similar here... I was confused at first, but I now wonder if they maybe want to get busy later in the day - can't imagine it myself, but people having an early meal (2pm) then a late takeaway (8pm). Dunno...

I don't get the Chinese food thing at all. I know we eat anything from around the world now but a Chinese meal on Xmas Day?? If you are Chinese, well fine, but it's not something that I could see ever crossing my, or anyone else I know minds.

Even that is strange to me....the amount of food around our house at Christmas is ridiculous - prawns, salmon, turkey, ham, all the trimmings, 3 or 4 deserts, cheese and biscuits, not to mention all the other crap that goes with....Terry's Choco Oranges, Selection Boxes etc. To even consider wanting a Chinese is mental to me, I'd much rather have leftovers or more cheese! Each to their own, though, I guess.

I just over-heard the saddest thing ever (well, not ever, but it was pretty sad).
"We're going out for our Christmas dinner this year. We're going to the X restaurant." Said all excited. Just a shame it's a local chip shop with a seating area they were talking about. |

I believe some McDonalds open on Christmas day. It's not about being rough, it may be used by ambulance drivers, police, long distance drivers etc. Not everyone has the day off with their family.

If that's what they want then that's OK. If you want a gourmet dinner that's better than a mass produced pub style lunch then that's OK too. |
