Aldi beats Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, M&S
Latest which magazine survey, aldi scored 72% customer satisfaction and 4 out of 5 for value.
http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/company/9266_18284.htm I am guessing it was beaten by waitrose |

Customer satisfaction does have a causal link to price. "It's far better than I expected for the price." vs. "At that price I would've expected more."
That said, I've been very impressed by some things I've bought from Aldi. Lidl, too. |

I think their main limitation is the range. Can't quite do a full shop there.

Aldi has good value
chocolate - dairyfine is lookalike cadburys peanuts - percy daltons (I think they are) are excellent cooked meat - hams and salamis are cheaper then you queue for 23 minutes at the checkout. |

Can't speak for Aldi as we don't have them in NI but Lidl is excellent. For things like cold cooked meats, cheeses and whatnot it really is amazing. They also were doing a half lobster for £4.99 the other week, now it wasn't exactly massive but it was enough to make some lobster rolls for lunch for the wife and I so that's good enough for me for a 5er.

Last time I tried to use our "local" llidl the store was filthy with refrigerated items in boxes on top of the freezer units clearly flouting any sort of food safety rules. We don't have a local Aldi I don't think but I can't imagine being tempted I am not even keen on Asda. Think Tesco and waitrose have my loyalty really with the occasional foray into morrisons or sainsburys.

I'll use almost any supermarket and don't really understand the 'Waitrose only 'school of thought. Yes, they do do some very nice things but, unless you shop carefully, they are more expensive. Yesterday, for example, we went to M&S, Morrisons and Waitrose, all within a 5 minute walk of each other. OH bought a bottle of whisky in Morrisons for £14.49 and the same whisky was £17.99 in Waitrose. Also, I've made some bad purchases in Waitrose recently. A few weeks ago I bought fresh cod that had a live worm in it and last week I bought a veal escalop which was tough and tasteless.
Today I will be foraging in Sainsbury, Tesco and Aldi.

A worm in the cod? Something like that would put me off for life. Not good.

Today I will be foraging in Sainsbury, Tesco and Aldi. ![]() Tesco is cheap and cheerful, staff are busier so don't have as much time to help so I only go there if my husband can come with me. Store is heaving unless you go really early or really late. Sainsburys not as cheap and not quite as cheerful, some of the staff look really unhappy and the store is busy all the time. if you go late it has a drunk problem in the carpark and it can feel a bit threatening going back to your car. Morrisons has just had a revamp and is ok for a quick top up shop but it is set out for the Asian community I think as giant bags of rice and huge vats of spices don't really appeal to me. I have to travel to get to asda, llidl.aldi and iceland so it's rare we bother as they don't offer anything better than what we can get locally for us. It is entirely personal opinion and different stores in different areas may be completely opposite to what we have here. |

Depends what you value most from your shopping experience, Waitrose has it's own carpark here, is never over crowded, I can pop into the chemist next door and return after my doing my shopping to collect prescriptions etc, the staff are lovely, the man who collects the trollies outside always offers to help when I struggle to get bags into the car.

All of the stores I have mentioned have either free parking or refund on your shopping bill except M&S and, to be honest, we haven't had a problem parking or travelling so I suppose it depends what part of the country you live in. I actually find our local Aldi staff the friendliest. Our Waitrose customers can be some real sour faced people. We call them too posh to shop! Doesn't negate the cod or the veal expirence though! |
