I've used both self-raising and plain flour to make pancakes recently..and I really cant tell the difference in taste or texture.
What is the difference, is it just one has baking powder in it making it expand more?

Basicaly, that's it. It might make a difference in yorkies, but in a pancake batter it won't have time to work

Yes... I usually use plain unless I've run out.

My Mum, Gawd bless her soul, used to use self-raising flour for everything - even pastry.
