what this Dutch woman did was very unacceptable.
however Rihanna flaunts the n word around in her songs and occasionally on her twitter so much that she's made it sound fashionable and accepting. the Dutch woman shouldn't have of course, but the woman's intention was that of rihanna's intention when she uses the n word. the only difference is the Dutch woman is not black. so i don't see why rihanna is sooo offended she should take part blame for promoting the word.

Rihanna tweeted (note the final line, about stringing two words together):

@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print! There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense…”NIGGA BITCH”?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you…**** YOU!!!

not really. if youve watched Roots you'll understand why the use of the word N....B... is so offensive. It was used to describe black women during slavery. saying they werent women or deserved to be respected/not abused. but the article is a bit random. she's offended because its a personal and racial attack on her, and shes got every right to be offended. and tbh rihanna hasnt used the n word all the time. and if she didnt should she still take the blame? no of course not. i dont think the womans intention was that of rihannas at all. rihanna uses the word in a descriptive sense not in an insulting manner.

theres a difference. its like a gay man calling himself a queer as a self description but if its used by a non gay male/female towards the man, its insulting (even if descriptive it may be). and if the shoe was on the other foot, would you still hold the same view (ie if a black magazine, say Ebony used the word honkieb**** to describe a white celeb, and that woman had referred to herself and others as honkies?

But this sound a bit random but why is that Black people can use the N word.

But White people can't use it.

I don't like the word and I don't like racist people but why can people like 50 Cent get off with that and Beastie boys can't.

its not getting away....its a descriptive. i dont know any white person using the word in a good sense. rappers use it in a descriptive sense, its targeted at a certain set of people and you understand who theyre referring to. i dont use it but i know some do. and for record, most black people dont use it frequently at all.

Because its self depreciating in a humorous sense. Normally when a non black says it, it's either not funny or misguided. Half of the stuff Chris Rock comes out with, if he was white, would be met with looks of horror.

I chose that video as Ross gets away with it, due to context and what he is actually saying and why (2nd clip).

I personally believe it to be a bloody awful word irrespective of the colour of the person saying it.

Just when I thought that fivehead alien fool couldn’t get any worse she goes and exceeds herself. She uses and throw that word around so casually not giving a toss how she may offend some people herself. She says she doesn’t want to be a role model but when her young fans see her endorsing words like that they too will use it.

As for the editor she is incredibly ignorant.

true. or in an intentionally offensive manner, bit in bold. its the thing comedians speak of. self description is ok if you ARE part of that particular group, but being outside it makes it NOT cool Like the asian comedian (omid djalili) speaking about asian families/culture or the nigerian comedian (andi osho) joking about nigerians. outside that group it can be seen as an insult rather than a joke about ones own culture.

not really. I doubt her fans will go around singing 'aint no other n**** like you' come on. and i dont think she'll offend people either (im not offended by the word when its used because i'm black - NOT - a n****). And her young fans should be educated by their parents to know what is acceptable and what isnt. you cant expect everyone to be nice so that kids live in a bubble and we dont have to educate our kids. life isnt pretty.

Nice dis in the opening line. How original.

Yeah all her young fans will be going around "Gimme them sweets n****b****".

Would it be acceptable to call Adele a 'fat *****' because she says she is happy with her weight? I think not.

Rihanna does have an incredible forehead, though. Also her lower-goat singing register leaves a lot to be desired.

She isn't using it in a derogatory way though is she. What that lame ass Dutch bitch printed was out of order. I would be suing them into hell.

Reappropriation of a term by an oppressed group it is not the same as...what this magazine did.

Massive cock-up, and she rightly resigned as she's the editor.

It's come to something when the target of a racial attack gets way more personal abuse than the perpetrator.
