'Dec. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc., which on Dec. 9 lost a bid to keep Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy 10.1 tablet out of Australia, claims the case for the device and cases for Samsung phones infringe its patents and registered design.'

This is what i dislike about Apple and pretty much why i will never again buy one of their products.

you'd find that if it was HTC or Samsung that owned that patent and Apple had used it without licensing it, then you'd have HTC or Samsung suing Apple.

Blame the weird patent system, not the owner of the patent.

I do also blame the owner for being stupid enough to think they can patent a case.

Once again, idiocy.

again missing the point. it's the patent system that is flawed for allowing the patent to exist in the first place.

you can't blame any company for trying to protect something they think will give them an edge, the blame is in the system that allows them to do it.

HTC, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung all own patents that are ridiculous. I assume you also boycott every one of these companies as they also sue people whilst protecting their patents.

The logical user chosen direction of Android is the mergering of the PC, tablet and smartphone technology.

Its simply not good for the bottom line of those who wish to control what we buy. Funnily enough it is no doubt Google's continued wish to control those who sell/advertise that led them to buy and develop Android.

Do we have only one brand of phone? Do we have only one brand of mp3 player? Do we have only one brand of computer?

it's amazing how much hate people have for a company that has such a small market share!

Perception actually had near one brand of mp3 and near one brand of PC software.

The phone has now switched to nearly one brand, that being Android. Time is lagging on perception though.

Yes they do all have patents but i'm missing no point. Who the hell patents a case ffs and why is it only Samsung they are suing once again?

Apple really have it in for Samsung. I cant see any other reason for all the lies and nonsense apple are making up apart from sheer fear since Samsung is now the worlds biggest Smartphone producer and won phone of the year.

And Microsoft Windows isn't a brand of PC even though we almost all choose Windows 7.
Its generally accepted that everyone selling Linux derived Android is under legal attack.

nobody said it was, you said " one brand of PC software", which Windows is. Android isn't a brand of smartphone.

and nobody really "chooses" windows 7, it comes pre-installed without much of a choice to not have it.

Actually its about their practice. Bring out substandard products, pinch other ideas then sue everyone else who brings out far superior devices. Fake photos to have a tablet pulled from sale in countries then lie about that.

Do remember what apple said :- "We have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.". Yet when anyone else slightly copies an idea they sue.

That's what people dislike about apple.

Absolute nonsense once again. I can go to a shop and order a PC with either windows or Linux.

What hoops are those?

Whist I don't agree with some of the things Apple litigates over, their behaviour is above board and they are well within their rights to protect their intellectual property.

Microsoft are doing exactly the same, the only difference being the strategies they are pursuing. Microsoft is actively looking for licensing opportunities whereas Apple wants exclusive use of their IP. This is entirely their prerogative, and their right.

It's actually Samsung (and to a lesser extent Motorola) that are engaging in underhand patent litigation strategies. They are suing Apple in several countries over 3G patents which have been FRAND pledged, and the European Competition Commission are currently considering whether or not Samsung's use of FRAND pledged patents should be the subject of a full scale anti-trust investigation.

In one case, a French court recently dismissed a Samsung case against the iPhone 4S after it was revealed that Qualcomm, who make the 4S baseband chip, already license the patents in question from Samsung so Apple are already licensed and Samsung never had a case at all.

They've also been having a go at HTC too (and failing): http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/...ase-htc-141671

I don't have a problem with fair market competition but Apple aren't doing that. They've hired packs of commercial lawyers to try to disrupt and shut down the businesses of their two perceived main rivals, namely Samsung and HTC via legal technicalities. Even blocking sales for a few months means that their rivals lose $ millions in sales.

I regard Apple's conduct as unethical, greedy and monopolistic and I won't now buy their products on principle. They used to be the inovative and idealistic start-up but now they've turned into yet another domineering megalomaniac "Murdoch-style" big corporation.

See my post above. It's actually Samsung and Motorola who's ethics are questionable in all this. But I suppose that doesn't matter to you. You've decided to don an Apple-hater hat so clearly no Android OEM could ever do any wrong.

Only Apple fabricated evidence and deliberately tried to mislead the judges though.

Microsoft defends patents because they want a licence fee for technology they own, like you say Apple wants to stop innovation in the market and be the only people to use their IP, which is a shame seeing as you can patent silly things like long key presses on a software keyboard etc.

Hang on a second lol

Are you telling us here that Apple are the victims in all these lawsuits they are flinging about and Samsung and Motorola are the culprits?!!! Haha!

They believed it hadn't been licensed properly and apple had agreed a settlement to which they disagree on.

However, that does not take away the fact apple are a lying, manipulative, hideous company who fabricate photos to have a rivals products taken off sale. That is disgusting behavior. They also have the cheek to pinch LG's form factor for a large touch screen phone then make one of their own and sue anyone else who dares to make a phone with a large touchscreen.

Samsung this year came out with a belter of a phone, the S2 knocking apple off its perch. What did apple do? Ah yes, they cried saying it looked like an iphone which every sane person knows it doesn't and sued

Are you still going to sit there and tell us its all above board?

Absolutely. Look at jobs saying he would have bankrupted himself to kill Android.

Scared much?
