If only!

PC World/Currys is the only local computer/laptop retailer.

Methinks we were in a way lucky to have Microsoft controlling everything for so long.

Apple copied the PDA and improved it. Android has improved it even further making it all function like a traditional computer.
Apple's only answer to this is to turn the clock back several years.

The latest patent dispute has been wrongly reported in the media it is not about the smart covers its about the actual casing on the phone and tablet

Quote:
“Samsung has released an official statement on the issue, noting that the term "case" was misinterpreted in early media reports as referring to protective case accessories. In fact, the term was referring to the external design of the devices themselves.”

Good god!

I think apple are becoming desperate now tbh. Pretty much every other lawsuit has been thrown out so they cobble this one together lol

I do wish Samsung would fudge them completely and pull out supplying the parts to Apple. Might shut them up for a while.

For a while, but Samsung would be wholly liable for Apple's losses and would end up owing Apple billions in lost revenue. Fortunately Samsung have smarter people than that making decisions.

Why would they do that? It would cost them far too much money.

A number of the lawsuits have yet to be decided. Samsung were given a opportunity to settle one of the suits and pay the licence but choose to roll the dice and challenge the patent (not this one can't remember the specific one) which both companies have a right to do not sure why apple are the big bad here.

Apple would just buy from another supplier, there are others out there ....

The lawsuits do appear to be getting somewhat petty though, and as with all such things, the only winners are invariably the lawyers.

Apple seldom buys suppliers, they just buy their merchandise whilst often requesting design enhancements.

Apple know that by choosing suppliers they can always stay towards the front lane of technology.
I'm also sure they are also quite happy having most of the heavy spenders as customers.

So it's the same patent they've been throwing about for most of 2011? That's not news...

Do those supporting Apple also think iCloud should be banned?

Dropbox is said to have turned down a sale to Apple shortly before introduced the iCloud.

Being a user of both iCloud and DropBox (which I still use in addition to iCloud), as far as I can tell they are totally different things. Dropbox is more for general purpose file syncing. ICloud is more for seamless iDevice data backup plus email and PIM syncing. It also provides automatic uploads of photos to computer via the Cloud. Although you can sync office docs with - it currently only really works well between iDevices and not so well with general purpose computers. This will probably improve when the new version of iWork is released.

you can't blame any company for trying to protect something they think will give them an edge, the blame is in the system that allows them to do it.

HTC, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung all own patents that are ridiculous. I assume you also boycott every one of these companies as they also sue people whilst protecting their patents.”

I don't recall HTC/Google/Samsung suing for rather malicious reasons like Apple do.

The reason why those companies are arming themselves up with patents is to protect themselves if Apple do sue - it's always a good thing to be able to say "if you sue us, I'm sure we have a few patents that your product infringes on" with the result being a settlement or cross-licensing.

Google bought Motorola Mobility for largely that reason - since Motorola holds a ton of patents on mobile phone technology. That is also why Google gave some of these to HTC.

That is a main problem for any non games iAPP. Integration is only at the behest of Apple.

Google haven't bought Motorola Mobility (not yet anyway).

MMI only hold 370 US patents, most of which are either irrelevant to the current disputes, or cover hardware technology to which Apple already has an implied license through its suppliers. There are a couple of key ones though, including the synchronisation patent they are currently litigating over regarding iCloud in Germany.

To put the patent relevance issue into perspective, Samsung hold 46,613 US patents and they are struggling to find ones that are both relevant to their disputes with Apple and strong enough to affect Apple in significant way.

And later https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-beijing-china

It is the same sort of rubbish, just reversed. Some of it likely filters into the China US trade tensions.

I guess banning last years iPhone is no big deal. If anything it may have increased sales for Baidi.

You had to necro a 5 year old thread?

Surely the logical way was to just post a new thread? especially as the link talks about someone suing Apple, not Apple suing someone...
