I am doing a project on role models in music so I am gathering opinions on Beyonce and Britney as their careers have spanned over the same time and as they both turned 30 this year, I thought it would be appropriate. Just general opinions please

BEYONCE all the way!! But Britney is cool too. Both girls appreciate one another, Beyonce even said this about Blackout http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsnQDqSNX1I and Britney was so nice about Bey at the Vma awards.

Beyoncé. Both have achieved a lot, but Beyoncé is more inspirational in my opinion.

Definitely Britney, although I like some of Beyonce's singles. I've been a Britney fan for years and I remember going through a phase when I wanted to dress like her (that was in 2001/2002).

Do you think she is as good as a role model for younger people now as she was to you in 2001/02?

Britney. I really have grown up with her (Hit Me Baby One More Time was my first singing memory).

And she lip syncs and doesn't pretend otherwise.

I wouldnt have thought that younger people give a toss about Britney. She might be the same age as Beyonce, but my daughters age group (late teen) really dont seem AT all interested in anything Britney does compared to Beyonce, Katy Perry, etc

As a singer, performer and business woman I'd say Beyoncé is more inspirational than Britney. She's very respected in the industry and has been praised by legends for her talent and being such a hard worker.

Id say in terms of role models Beyonce is fantastic, she has a great relationship, inspirational songs and has achieved a lot for women.
BUT Britney is a fabulous role model (despite what some would say) simply because she has shown the world that you can build yourself back up, she's done this twice, once when she was young and poor and more recently by bouncing back from her troubles, she's shown younger people (and older ones) that no matter how tough life gets you can always make it better, and when i feel down i think of how Britney has overcome her troubles, so for me, Britney is a better role model because of the situations she has been in and how she's bounced back from rock bottom.

Do you think the way the media has portrayed Britney's 'ups and downs' has influenced public opinion of her?

Could you say then that the fact she doesn't, in a sense 'put her all' into her craft or job makes her less of a role model as, despite maybe her honesty, she could be seen getting away with not giving her all in her career?

I prefer Britney but I think Beyoncé is more talented.

I wouldn't say so, no. She's clearly getting better as compared to how she was with Blackout (especially THAT VMA performance) and the Circus Tour. Yes, she shouldn't have had to but after all that happened to her I would have been shocked if she put her all in straight away.

It just makes me think better of her because it shows you CAN recover.

I think so, I see Britney as more of a role model anyway.

The whole miming thing is why I find it hard to take her live performing seriously. It's not putting your all into it, compared to Beyoncé who owns the stage, and does it all live. If you're a singer I think Beyoncé is someone who they'd like to be like most.

Beyoncé is a better role model, but I prefer Britney.

Beyoncé can be very bland and predictable, whereas Britney can have those little streaks of craziness that make her so good.
I find 1999-2004 era Britney much more entertaining than Beyoncé has ever been, even with the miming.
I would rate Beyoncé way over Britney in terms of performance now though.

I don't know, really. I feel like I should prefer Bey because of her talent, but something brings me back to Britney every time and I don't know why.
Maybe it's just a little hope that one day she could turn around and be amazing again, even if I don't truly think that'll happen.

Definitely, id say them trashing her all the time probably made a lot of the general public "go off" her in recent years, all the stories about her abusing her kids, the miming etc have cost her a lot of sales and most importantly fans. Which is a shame because she is quite capable of giving a good performance, she just isnt in her peak anymore so i feel she cant sustain an entire show without parts looking lazy or more sluggish, which again the media have portrayed as being very negative.

Britney all the way!

While i wouldnt say either are MY role moels. I like Beys recent album and Destinys Child singles and some of her solo stuff....but its patchy for me...as a performer she has grown...but she doesnt connect with me.

Britney however....i have grown up with and i have every album and even though her debut two albums and Circus are more "mixed" i still like the albums....as a performer she has that X factor. And she is such a prolific woman! Love her, hate her, love to hate her, hate to love her....Britney is a massive icon.

I think she can be a considered a role model for having it all, losing it all, breaking down and raking it all back again....its very inspirational

So yeah out of both Britney MILES ahead

Beyoncé, so easy.

Beyoncé has the work ethic, vocals, performance and attitude that stand her miles ahead of all her competitors, the woman is near perfect, I love her music, have done since DC days, a definite legend in the making (if not already).

BUT

If I was asked to choose, I'd favour Britney. The X Factor Simon Cowell and co are looking for, is best described simply as "Britney." Whatever it actually is, she has it in spades. She became almost an instant icon/legend, for a couple of years, she was possibly at her most notorious, without dropping a single record, people are drawn to her. In comparison to Beyoncé her vocals aren't up to scratch, nor is her attitude or performance anymore, but with Britney, she somehow manages to pull it off. She got a genuine standing ovation at the MTV awards a couple of years ago, just for being there and being alive basically.

She's been through a lot, she's shown the harsh reality of showbusiness but also that it's not all bad, there is always a chance for a comeback.

I think in decades to come, when people think back over the past 10 years or so, Britney will be the one that's remembered first, whilst Beyoncé is a bit of an after thought. Not to take anything away from her, as I said I love her, I've seen them both "Live" ("" for Britney) but I see the comparison like MJ and Prince, both big stars around the same time, MJ is the one that is remembered as iconic instantly, but given a bit of thought you remember just how good Prince was as well.
