I'm not normally one to shoot down the opinions, but I've seen some people on this thread use the fact that Beyonce hasn't faced the challenges Britney has as a negative against her and that Britney wins as she's overcame her obstacles. I don't understand, when comparing musical artists, the fact that one is vastly more talented than the other can be overlooked in favour of such factors?!”

LOL but we cant bring that in comparing britney to anyone (although we darn well should!). because umm....theres not much talent there. if britney had a face like jennifer hudson would she have all the fame/sales and adoration? i dont think so....

Exactly... the very mention of the dreaded word 'talent' - one which fans of Britney can not possibly use against Beyonce of all artists, never mind pretty much the majority of the mainstream music industry - seems to present the 'well that artist has never faced the problems Britney has so there!' ... well to that I say Britney has never headlined Glastonbury and never will, so there.

quite true! glasto defined why i love beyonce. people said she was forcefully placed at the centre of DC but that 1.5 hour performance showed/proved WHY. i love kelly too, but we saw that kelly cant hold a candle to beyonce. years on kelly could easily make a 4/I am sasha fierce (the latter especially with her experimentation with dance) but hasnt. i dont think kelly has it in her. beyonce has experimented a lot in her career. Britney wont headline any festival because it has to be live. and she'd bring glasto into disrepute too. i found it baffling that people try to belittle beyonce's set. after all, all she did was shake her booty for 90 mins. seriously. SMH at some.

Britney had to deal with: handling the pressure of being the number 1 female in the business at the time, 2 kids, a breakdown, a divorce, at least 20 paps following her around daily and just her life being totally ruined. Obviously they have had to handle completely different situations through their careers but surely in is through their own decisions and choices to decide how to deal with them? Your point about the media and the public being a lot more interested in Britney is surely obvious as bad press sells best and especially the public, almost enjoy and are perhaps fascinated by the breakdown of such a high profile figure. As you say, Britney has been through a lot but surely people go through much worse and it's only the way the media has portrayed and the fact every detail was reported that could have made it sound worse?

You say all that like she had no choice, Britney rushed into getting married and having kids and then she couldn't handle it. How come she can keep a low profile now, but couldn't for years? You make it sound like it's a bad thing that Beyonce didn't go out of control

That's what's I find irritating in this thread. People make out as if it's a bad thing Beyoncé hasn't gone of the rails, I find it admirable that she hasn't.

What on earth is everyone arguing over their private lives for? How the hell is that relevant to their impact as artists? Yes Britney went through absolute shit, but it doesn't make her a worse person because of it. Not one artist out there right know has been through half of what Britney has at such a young age, especially Beyonce who has lived a pretty sheltered life, mostly thanks to her father.

Like I said before, I love both, two of my top 3 artists. But Britney HAS to have the edge. Here's why:

Music-
Britney's music has always been superior, more catchy and more unique. She's been consistent, even when she isn't at her best she still puts out great music, and each album has something new to offer. Beyonce has been really hit and miss with her music, and her albums generally have more filler than Britney's. Not to mention that Britney has sold more per each equivalent album between them. She also has far more memorable singles than Beyonce. Again I love both, but I can't deny the obvious.

Performance-
Right now Beyonce is at her peak as a performer while Britney is still trying to re-find herself, so she trumps her in that dept. However through the years Britney's performances have always been more entertaining and iconic than Beyonce's.

Celebrity-
Britney has always been the bigger personality. She's been more honest and open with her fans, while Beyonce has been a lot more secretive and, I'm sad to say, deceitful in some cases. The media obsession didn't start with the bad press, it started with Baby One More Time, and continued to highten to its peak when she was submited to the psych ward. People have always cared more about Britney, and in fact I think this year has been a peak for Beyonce in terms of her celebrity. Her billboard performance was her first really iconic moment solo other than her videos, and her baby bump increased interest in her beyond what it has usually been.

They are both amazing women, and can easily co-exist in the music scene. Their pepsi add with Pink remains epic.

^ Their coke advert is actually really cool!

And can i just point out, I'm not saying it's a bad thing that Beyonce hasn't gone off the rails. I was saying I admire Britney more as a role model (which was the whole point of this thread) because she had a really bad time, yet pulled through and is still successful today in the industry.

I remember when Britney was in every single newspaper, magazine and blog, back in 2007. Good times at DS!

I prefer Britney, however she herself said she would never want to be considered a role model for anyone.

britney is still re-establishing herself. but 12-13 years ago, britney would win the entertainer part. but now its beyonce that has the advantage. but i always thought beyonce had the better music than britney but though i was a massive britney fan before i even thought of beyonce but i've always preffered beyonce more.

i dont think so. beyonce's got that funky edge. britney can dance but i dont think she's a natural. beyonce would have slayed brit in the late 90s too. IMO of course. theres a reason her debut got 5 grammys. (and its not because mathew knowles bought them - you cant buy grammys its impossible). and she won in the r&b and rap/sung categories which is fair, she had the best material out of the other nominees.
