Blackberry deserved that after the way the CEO treated their customers.

I do wish people wouldn't buy walled garden gadgets.

Its new to me but I do now wonder whats going on behind the scenes.

Is the playbook worth getting even if you don't have a blackberry phone?

Using a Playbook with a BB phone does give access to some extra features but I don't think it's essential.

I'm just back from PC World to pick up the Playbook I had reserved yesterday. So far, I'm very impressed. The browser is good and the media playback is excellent. I'm not that bothered about lack of thousands of apps as I imagine most of the use of this tablet will be for web browsing and music/video playing.

Clearly it's not an iPhone/Galaxy tab killer but for £169 I think it's now possibly the best sub-£200 7 inch tablet.

Have been debating wether to get a tablet or not for a while, I eventully caved today and bought myself the ASUS Transformer with Keyboard dock [and yes, I know it will be updated soon, but at £500 it's a bit expensive].

I had an extended play about with the BB Playbook an it is possibly the most useles piece of kit ever. You have a one screen interface which is split between showing settings, currently open Apps and your App drawer. You use touch guestures to summon the limited menu systems there are and although everything is very fluid and looks good, the end user experience is very limited.

Couple this with the fact that there are virtually no Apps, not even the big ones, and that RIM has given up on tablets, it is not worth buying. Don't even go down the "But Android apps are coming." route - it is not going to be as simple as downloading them from a marketplace. You have to download the apk. for the App, change its file type, sign it and then copy it to your device.

Anyone who wants a more portable 7 inch tablet should get the HTC Flyer over the play book.

My other half now wants an ipad after using her sisters. I'm persuading her to give up on the idea as all she wants to do is browse the internet and for 400 quid that's one expensive browser in my book and all her sister has achieved to do apart from surf the web is to play naff app games. I'm happy to get a tablet but at half the price, I will look into it but can anyone steer me into the right direction for a good browsing experience that companies will produce apps for?

if its android based then any android app should work on it.
There are 2 main flavours of android
- 2.x is the oldest and designed for smartphones
- 3.x is specfically designed for tablet. It's really what you want your tablet to support.

4.x is supposed merge 2.x and 3.x into an operating system for both smart phones and tablet. However there is still a lot of unknown as to which existing tablets will support it.

If you want a relatively cheap tablet then if you can get one, the Advent Vega can be had for around £170 on ebay through you will need to put a new ROM (operating system) on it. Aside from that that the xoom is a good choice,.It has a higher resolution display as well.

I would buy a xoom for £250 but can't see it at that price on the CPW site (cheapest is £319). Was it a limited time offer, or in-store only offer?
