She's still #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the 8th week in a row. Is this a new record for her in the US?

Love how when this song first came out some Gaga fans were acting like it was a huge flop!

As a Gaga stan, I never said it would be a flop nor did I hear the other stans say such things.

When I heard this song I was like "Woah!!!", I couldn't stop playing it over and over and over. It's one of those songs that has elements of both joy and melancholy and I love it. The whole Calvin Harris treatment was a master-stroke. It's just a brilliant pop song!

If only Gaga could have a long lasting, mega-hit like this....

We Found Love is so overrated

Meh, 8 weeks is nothing in America if I'm honest. There are more far longer running singles:
Quote:
“Most weeks at number one:
16 weeks:
Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men — "One Sweet Day" (1995)

14 weeks:
Whitney Houston — "I Will Always Love You" (1992)
Boyz II Men — "I'll Make Love to You" (1994)
Los del Rνo — "Macarena" (Bayside Boys mix) (1996)
Elton John — "Candle in the Wind 1997" / "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" (1997)
Mariah Carey — "We Belong Together" (2005)
The Black Eyed Peas — "I Gotta Feeling" (2009)

13 weeks:
Boyz II Men — "End of the Road" (1992)
Brandy and Monica — "The Boy Is Mine" (1998)

12 weeks:
Santana featuring Rob Thomas — "Smooth" (1999)
Eminem — "Lose Yourself" (2002-2003)
Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris — "Yeah!" (2004)
The Black Eyed Peas — "Boom Boom Pow" (2009)

11 weeks:
Elvis Presley — "Hound Dog" / "Don't Be Cruel" (1956) (Pre-Hot 100: "Best Sellers in Stores" and "Most Played in Jukeboxes" charts)
All-4-One — "I Swear" (1994)
Toni Braxton — "Un-Break My Heart" (1996)
Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring 112 — "I'll Be Missing You" (1997)
Destiny's Child — "Independent Women Part I" (2000)

10 weeks:
McGuire Sisters — "Sincerely" (1955) (Pre-Hot 100: "Most Played by Jockeys" chart)
Pιrez Prado — "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White" (1955) (Pre-Hot 100: "Best Sellers in Stores" chart)
Debby Boone — "You Light Up My Life" (1977)
Olivia Newton-John — "Physical" (1981)
Santana featuring The Product G&B — "Maria Maria" (2000)
Ashanti — "Foolish" (2002)
Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland — "Dilemma" (2002)
Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx — "Gold Digger" (2005)
Beyoncι — "Irreplaceable" (2006)
Flo Rida featuring T-Pain — "Low" (2008)”

I don't understand why they did? Like, what's the point?

I remember it too, but it was so stupid, because none of Rihanna's fans were worried, but they were telling us we must be worried. Only Girl climbed to #1 after 3 months if I remember correctly! So I can never understand why on Earth we were supposed to be worried that We Found Love didn't get to #1 on iTunes on release week.

They don't seem to understand that Rihanna has less fans than Lady Gaga, so she's never going to go straight to #1 like Born This Way did. Rihanna's songs sell a lot because the general public grow to like the songs over time.

All that said though, I do think We Found Love is quite overrated. I'm a Rihanna fan, and I think it's pretty boring. I wish You Da One or Talk That Talk were having this success. We Found Love is quite generic and is the same as all the other pop stars are doing, whilst You Da One and Talk That Talk are quite unique and different.

But good for Rihanna. 8 weeks at #1 is quite a long time (although she does have the advantage of having practically no competition atm).

hope the song stays no.1 longer than that tik tok song that kesha released last year because tik tok is the worst song in the world imho!!

these charts are based on RADIO AND SALES, so if a radio station plays the song 50times a day and play another song 10times a day then the chart position is just based on what the radio station decided to play rather than what is ACTUALLY selling. its a fix.

Yep. Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO is what would be #1 if this chart didn't include airplay.

Yes, it's Number 1 on the same merits as every other song in the US Charts, so not really a fix at all.

Never - ever - will the UK Charts have an Air Play element in them.
Far too many people regard it as stupid, & the USA Charts have
never been as interesting as they used to be, since they stopped
being Sales based only.

The UK Charts will never make that mistake!

Funny how for all the singles charts dominance, she can't buy herself a No. 1 album in the States.

Neither can

Aretha Franklin
Pink
Shakira
Chaka Khan
Tina Turner
Diana Ross

etc, etc,

Yeah, totally meh, you've listed 28 songs that have lasted longer.

How many hundreds of songs are released each year?

It's a brilliant acheivement, regardless of how the chart is set up, she's stayed top for a long time.

This exactly, and I am pretty sure she has another 2 weeks in her too. Fantastic achievement really.

And also fed up of people saying 'oh she has all these great sales but she hasn't had a #1 album in the u.s. who cares? I'm pretty sure rihanna doesn't when her albums sell so much world wide and her single sales are incredible.

I totally agree, plus if you look at the list that they posted not many of them are from these past few years, mostly in the 1990s when it was probably harder to get to number one but how songs in the last couple of years have lasted longer than 8 weeks? not many. I think she's done really well, even though there haven't been too many big songs out at the moment
