But she doesn't really sell huge numbers of albums worldwide. Talk That Talk only went to No. 1 in 6 countries; compare that to the Foo Fighters Wasting Light which went to No. 1 in 12 countries, and charted higher overall.

Rihanna's album sales are very average for someone who sells such a mammoth number of singles, which suggests that people don't really take her seriously as an artist.

Rihanna sells lots of singles because she advertises her singles so much, and she has terrible album sales because she doesn't advertise her albums.

Foo Fighters sell lots of albums because they advertise their albums a lot, and they have terrible single sales because they don't advertise their singles.

And people obviously don't take Rihanna seriously as an artist, and Rihanna doesn't claim to be such. People just like the songs.

And I think a lot of people (such as me) have respect for the Foo Fighters as artists. I'm sure they're very talented and hard-working people, but I don't like any of their songs, so I won't buy or listen to their material.

maybe if she takes her time within a year and a half or two years to get an album together maybe she'll get a number one album but her singles are definitely more viable than her album.

"Loud" has apparently sold 8 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling albums of the year. Foo Fighters haven't had an album sell that much worldwide for years now, if ever.

But Talk That Talk will probably outsell Foo Flighters last album worldwide despite not charting at #1 in as many countries.

I'd also like to add that "Wasting Light" became Foo Fighters first #1 album in the US in their 15 year career.

Her supposed low album sales have nothing to do with people not taking her seriously as an artist but more to do with the fact that album sales have decreased a lot over the last 10 years while single sales have gone up. You get the odd album like "21" or "The Fame" that will sell 10 million+ worldwide but they're few and far between. Rihanna's albums seem to have longevity in the US which is the main thing. "Loud" debuted in the US with just over 207,000 copies and has now sold over 1.5 million there.

How is it a fix? It's just how it's done in the US. It's the same for every other song on the chart.

But her albums have longevity which is the main thing. "Loud" debuted with 207,000 copies and ended up selling over 1.5 million and placing 9th on Billboard's best selling albums of the year. "Talk That Talk" will probably end up selling a million+ if she can pull a few more hits off the it.

I guess you could say that the Foo Fighters album sales are pretty average for their status. Their best seller in the US is "The Colour and the Shape" which has sold 2 million there and that was at a time when album sales were huge back in the 1990s. Their total album sales in the US is 9.5 million for 10 albums over 15 years which, while a healthy amount, is pretty average for being one of the worlds biggest rock bands.

Just to add: "Loud" has sold between 5-6 million worldwide, this 8 million figure is obviously not right. Still, 6 million copies today is great.

But unlike pop artists, rock bands tend to build their success slowly.

Foos may have been around for 15 years, but people assume just because Dave was in Nirvana that they were always a huge stadium rock act. The fact is that they bubbled under the radar for a good number of years; they were always popular, but never huge. It's really only since Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace that they reached their current level of success. So yes, while you can call them one of the world's biggest rock bands (perhaps behind only Metallica?), the truth is that status was only recently conferred on them.

Don't forget that the Foos are a far more successful touring act than Rihanna as well, another problem she seems to have in the States.
