NME TV to close :(

I was saddened to hear that the NME music channel is
to cease broadcasting:

http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/nme-tv-to-close

It was an interesting channel, and it ran the
most diverse and interesting selection of music videos
on TV (compare to say, MTV Rocks, whose roster
mainly consists of a handful of bands). I'll miss
it when it goes.

This is another nail in the heart for Rock/Indie/Alternative music trying to break through to the mainstream.
Super Roux!

I never watched NME much, but it was on that channel, I first saw the music video for Ellie Goulding's "Under The Sheets," before she won the Brits Choice Award. Since then, I always go back and forth, and have found others I'm interested in too.

There's too many "dance," channels. Can't they be done away with instead?

Yeah. The Q Channel now shows Katy Perry and Rihanna
(artists who can be founded on every second music
channel) and hardly any "alternative" music. It's a shame
most of the music channel rosters are so homogenous and
repetitive-especially since I know quite a few people who
never listen to the radio anymore, so how will they discover
new artists that aren't from reality shows?

This channel had it's moments but catered way to much to the drippy, dull as death indie bands who have somehow managed to take all fun out the the electric guitar. I wish we had a proper US version of the MTV2 channel that showed decent punk/rock/grunge with a bit of old school hip hop on the side!

Agreed, no big loss for me. It had the occasional song on I liked. I'm not a big indie fan, more like rock/metal.

Although the rock channels seem to be going, first Lava now NME, at least Lava still has a show on Greatest Hits. As long as Kerrang and Scuzz stay I'll be happy! MTV Rocks is rubbish, I sometimes find RnB on there!!

MTV 2 in the UK use too do that when it was M2 and I loved it.I did not like NME TV just put that dull as dish water Indie bands on it.

I discovered interesting new acts like Joe Goddard
and Bombay Bicycle Club thanks to the NME channel,
so I am going to miss it.

Remember the XFM TV channel? I thought that one was pretty
good as well.

There was a thread on this in Broadcasting. I think music channels seem to be dying out
