I don't get it !

I bought the album a couple weeks after it came out because of all the hype but it only has 2 decent songs on it. The rest is just elevator music.

I tried to get into it by playing it in my car for a couple of weeks but I gave up.

Its went back in the CD case on the shelf and hasn't been out since.

I don't get why its selling so much.

Nope! Rihanna's Talk That Talk is the most boring album of the year for me. Unbelievably contrived, false and stupid.

Each to their own, I guess, but I thought 21 was an emotive, well-written piece of Soul-Pop which clicked with a large number of the general public.

I kind of agree. It is littered with exceptional vocals but I personally can only make a case for me liking three songs on the entire album. The rest of it bores me too.

Clearly it's me that is missing something but I cannot understand why it has done so well. I'm glad that it has though.

yawn. if it had only sold 100-300k in the u.k and had not picked up internationally, this would be a thread titled "underrated album of the year" ; talking about how the album should have done better and the usual label blame. Personally, I think the albums great and i'm even happier that its her getting this kind of success.

I think we may have been saved from the most boring album of the year when Collide bombed.

I'm a HUGE Adele fan i waited 3 (well 2 and a half ) years from 19 and whilst i love 21 and musically.lyrically, and vocally it's a step up i do prefer 19 there were more sharp corners and a spark of personality that is lost on her blues and emotions on 21 vocally stunning yes lrically mature yes but overall doesn't do it for me like 19 but the reason it has sold is because it resonates with most people its a very human album which in regards to the sleaze and smut that consists the top 40 is endearing also word of mouth OP bought it after hype point in case.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I agree with TheChicagoBaron, Talk That Talk is definitely the most boring album for me.

It's quite refreshing to see a successful female artist singing about something other than going to a club and getting smashed.

This.

BUT... because of this, 21 has got to be up there with the most boring albums of 2011 for me (I couldn't possibly call it THE most boring because I haven't heard every album that's been released this year)

I personally disagree, there's only one song (He Won't Go) that I cannot stand.

Something like Elbow's album or Ed Sheeran's album surely win most boring album.

I think Love? by JLO is one of the most boring, that or Alexis Jordin's maybye even Jessie J (from the one's i got)

You mean the world #1, Billboard #1, grammy nominated dance record "Collide" ?

You think a dance tune is boring

Crap maybe, but boring ?

Its morose, background noise that torments hard working people in distribution centres and warehouses every day.It is FM Radio friendly unit shifting garbage.
It is a 'Coldplay'
It is a 'Keane'
It is a 'Nickelback'

It is,accepted as acceptable.

The girl has an apalling vocal range, and tends to shout through most of her songs. And she has that uber modern trait of making her voice break when she is singing.

Amy winehouse didnt just leave behind a corpse,She left behind a gap in the record industry marketplace, that seems to have been taken by this Adele character.
As usual..the real talent dies young-and the living have to suffer with the consequences.

Yeah I'd go for either Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna or Alexis Jordan as the most boring. I haven't actually heard Adele's album, but the three singles alone are better and more interesting than any of the four albums I mentioned.

talk that talk's not that boring. Lol you'd think it was a SuBo album. if her singles bomb then you can say that - but single 1 is still destroying everyone in the US (longest number one of 2011 - i admit, not the biggest selling - i think its ok, but i dont love it - i prefer watch n learn ).

21 is good as an album. but you cant listen to it all again and again. you can listen to each song separately and have many repeat listens. the only album i've ever had to do that with. weird. but overall its boring, but its good as a track by track listen. of course IMO.

what about femme fatale? just keeping up with trends unlike rihanna for the most part. rihanna's music is modern but isnt pure electro/dubstep.

I would say its one of the most boring albums ever not just this year.
Your comments about it containing a lot of filler seems to tie in with many peoples views.
Would guess millions have bought it to see what the fuss is about and like you its had one play and its now collecting dust in the CD rack.
The sort of album and artist who will be long forgotten in 5 years time as her music appeals to many who are not actually fans of hers, to have longevity you need a massive fan base.

Really? Talk That Talk, Roc Me Out, Birthday Cake, etc... I love the songs. I always listen to them.

mainly because it is relatively easy to relate to her music. I love 19 much much much much more than 21 but it is a good album though.

i dont subscribe to these theories where there are millions of copies of this cd laying around gathering dust. surely, after almost a year, people would have cottoned on by now, if the album is as bad as some suggest.

i am not sure why rihanna is being mentioned here though? they are completely different genres of music. however, whoever mentioned that rihanna`s single was not one of the biggest selling tracks in the us, wasn't wrong there. i was shocked to discover its #48, in the digital sales year end chart!

they stopped counting its sales weeks ago. at the end of november for the end of year chart to be released early december. thats why. now it'll be about 15th. it had only sold about 1m copies at the end of november. by now it'll be near 2m. in terms of adele, 21 is gathering dust on my shelf. at the time RITD sold it for me, so i was hoping for a soul fest. light country, blue grass and acoustics were NOT what i was expecting I listen to the songs every now and then but...meh

near 2 million? that wouldn't get her in the top 15, in all honesty. in terms of adele, that`s your opinion and there are many that share that opinion on here. however, i still don't believe there are millions of copies not being listened too.

oh yes, I like it but its not on constant repeat. oh and rihanna could have been at 15. (I exaggerate as you know ) airplays taken into account for the whole year share. SLY is at 24 even though its sold over 3m copies. not likely of course LOL, but you never know. after all RITD was at 5 for the pop songs chart but number one on the hot 100 (which takes sales and airplay into account)

how do you know, i know? sorry, if i wasn't clear, i was talking about purely digital sales when i quoted that number on her year end figure. to be honest, i like both artists anyway and want them both to have continued success. i have all the albums of both girls. however, i was genuinely shocked by that year end placing.

billboard.com - year end charts - you should check it (the US versions of OFC - and its horrendously complex. In a good way )

thats how I know! I wish all artists success (as long as theyre genuine and not using something as a gimmick, that annoys me!) I have both albums too. I didnt buy 19 - I couldnt stand chasing pavements - when it came on I went bonkers LOL. Ive bought so many of rihannas albums, the only one I didnt buy was music of the sun - I was too young to know what a single was let alone an album, but 2006 onwards I wised up - fashion and music wise!
