Manufacturing fault on Season 6 CD 1 soundtrack ?

I've bought the S6 soundtrack on CD (from HMV; they priced it reasonably enough it wasn't worth ordering from Amazon ) and tried ripping it to MP3 format.

Track 26 on CD 1 was unreadable at about 55% into the track and track 27 could not be read either. CD 2 rips perfectly however.

HMV replaced it with another CD set and the _exact_ same fault, including failing at the _exact_ same position is present on the replacement CD 1.

When looking at the CD you can see a small mark embedded within the CD itself.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

Thanks for any information.

This could be a batch fault, as I am unaware of myself or anyone else having this problem.

The only thing I could recommend is to take it to HMV and request them to replace it in a few days (post-Christmas unfortunately), where it is more likely that a new batch is present.

If you tell them about it, it more than likely that they could get the entire batch replaced.

Fingers crossed it's only a very small number, would be bad if they've managed to screw up the physical version two years in a row...

I have no faults with the CD I ordered off Amazon.

A third CD 1 had exactly the same problem at exactly the same place and it was still a problem when I tried using another DVD/CD drive to read the CD. The same DVD drives can read other CDs (and DVDs), including CD 2, just fine.

However, CD 1 plays fine when run though a normal CD player (which was something I didn't think to try; it's been at least 5-7 years since I last played a CD as a CD instead of ripping it).

Therefore, I configured cdparanoia (which is what my ripper uses) to run the CD drive at a slow speed, and was able to successfully rip CD 1 in full. Although I've been ripping my CD purchases for the best part of a decade, this is something I don't recall ever having to do before.

It seems obvious there's something wrong with this batch of CD 1's which stops you ripping as normal. At least I will know to try this in the future...

Short version: If anyone reading this also has problems ripping CD1, try telling your ripper to run the CD drive at a slow speed, (say 8-16x) instead of it's normal 40-50x speed.

Hope this helps someone.

Got mine from Amazon and it plays fine. perhaps the answer is not to rip CD's ?
