Yes, fine but the OP is only trying to convert and burn a movie/movies(?) - not a slideshow with menus - to a DVD and no-one else seems to have had difficulty with any of the programs suggested.
Personally I've never had problems using Windows 7 Media Center to make a slideshow - but that's getting off-topic. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/15714...-media-center/ |

I have been doing this for years with downloaded videos.
![]() First I use Super c (freeware) to convert the video to the required format if needed. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html Then burn onto a blank dvd disc using Imgburn (freeware) http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download Another useful free program is Winx dvd ripper which will copy protected dvd. http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper/ |

I am usising WINX and it works so easy!!! Takes some time. I am wondering is there another type of disk I can use that will have more space on it?
Also need to find out why I can not use the mouse in any of the safe modes? |

DVD9 is a dual (or double) layer disk which holds 4 hours of video, twice that of a normal DVD disc: that's why you don't have enough space. Why it has a 9 in the name is a mystery.
They're more expensive and can only be used once. I don't think there's a re-writable version yet. |

As you're using 4.7gb single layer discs it's no good telling the program that an 8.5gb DVD is inserted.
It's confusing the program and you. Just select DVD5 as the type being used |

Thanks I have got it to work now but I never manage to get to the part where it has actually burned the CD (other than once in 7 attempts) as I keep getting a message coming up either while converting or burning or after adding the videos that says "access Violation" and then a number then it says "winX has encountered an error and is closing" then closes. Any ideas why?

OK I located the file and deleted it. For some reason when I run WinX burner it keeps crashing my PC. I will be running WinX and all of a sudden I get a blue screen which says preparing for crash dump? Why is this happenening when I run WinX? Should I uninstall Winx and download it again?

Maybe you have a dodgy copy of WinX. It's not freeware so if you didn't actually buy it, it may not work. Only WinX converter is free AFAIK.
Or the file itself is corrupt and it will never convert or burn correctly. If you did buy WinX instead of using the other free alternatives, then you deserve to suffer.

I use DVDShrink for all my DVD needs. You can take any region DVD, rip it and then produce a PAL ISO to burn with imgburn.

Yes, DVDShrink is a good program for shrinking DVDs, but the OP is trying to convert files - which appear to be .flv or .plv to DVD - and then burn a DVD

Thanks, not sure why but some of the videos work fine but some of them the picture plays really fast and the sound is normal speed. So all out of sync? Any ideas why that is? The videos are on the same CD, some are fine some are like that?

For example, although it allows the creation of menus etc,. you cannot get rid of the default "back" button that appears on the main menu, although you can in the chapter menus etc. It's not that intuitive, and the quality isn't that great. It has potential, but it's not there yet. |

If you are on about problems on a finished DVD then those symptoms are similar to those you would get if your hardware isn't up to the job you are trying to do. Can you provide the following information: What operating system are you using, Windows 7, Windows XP, Vista?. Processor and graphics card in your system?. How much memory does your system have?. It sounds like your computer is dropping frames during the conversion process, which is leading to the effect of the video speeding up and slowing down. 1. Make sure you have no other programs running when doing any video editing or conversion, especially on an older machine. 2. Shutdown your antivirus/antispyware software while editing (you may also disconnect your internet if you are worried about not having anti virus while converting). 3. Look at the applications running in the background (displayed down at the very bottom right of your task bar), shut down any that don't need to be there, such as calendars, widgets etc. 4. Check your conversion program, somewhere in the program's menus will be a setting that shows where it is saving temp files, usually something like "c:\windows\temp". Check you have sufficient disc space on the drive it points to above. You generally need DOUBLE the space the conversion will take up, so I would say 9Gb or more for a standard single layer blank DVD. You basically need a sufficiently powerful PC, enough disc space, nothing running in the background that can cause issues and take processor time (much more important on a single core computer or with a program that cannot use more than one core than with a modern dual or quad core system), and as much memory as you can free up for successful conversion/editing. |

Ohh I just checked some other videos i have and the sound and picture is fine but the picture is much faster than the sound on the dvd, but it makes no sense when the others are fine on the same dvd. |

Yeah, from what you posted your PC is struggling. Vista itself is a memory hog, so the fact you only have 1Gb of ram isn't good, Vista nicks a lot for itself just to run which doesn't leave much for other tasks.
In terms of hard disc space, and even the graphics card, you're OK for SD editing/conversion and even for HD conversion, although it might struggle with HD editing, although just converting to DVD should be fine. That graphics card is built on to the motherboard, so it doesn't have the performance of a dedicated card and will also use some of the system memory. I would thoroughly recommend increasing the memory, you can test what you have and what type you would need to buy by using Crucial's memory test tool here: http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ Once you have more memory you need to check in the Bios of the PC, and see if you can increase the amount of memory the graphics card can use. With only 1Gb of ram I would guess the graphics card is only allocated 128Mb, although it may be 256Mb. If it's 256Mb allocated that should be fine although you'll increase performance if it allows you to increase the allocation to 512Mb. But, you wont be able to do so until you have installed more memory. How much you can install depends on how many slots there are on your motherboard, it's likely your board will have two slots if it is a budget board, or 4 if it is a decent one. You can take the cover or side panel off your PC and just peer inside to see how many slots you have. Also Google your motherboard model to see what the maximum it will take, but bear in mind, if you are using 32Bit Vista then there is no point going above 3-4Gb as 32bit Vista can only see just over 3Gb anyway. Install 6, 8 or whatever and you'll still only get around 3.2Gb free as Vista wont see the rest anyway. In most cases you'll be able to tell what motherboard you have by once again, just peering inside the case. It'll be stamped on the motherboard somewhere, but if not, there are tools you can download that will check everything and report the details for you. |

thanks for that. I keep getting a blue screen with a message saying
Win32k.system add 9574ed45 BASE AT 95690000, DATESTAMP0000000 STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X9574ED45, 0X9ADCCC98, 0X00000000) Be sure you have adeque disk space if a driver is identified in this stop message disable that driver . Check with hardware vendor for any bios updates |

Have you installed any new hardware prior to the message?. Have you installed any new software prior to the message?. To be honest, you are having so many problems I would suggest you take your computer to a repair shop to have them look at, and have them advise on upgrading the memory etc. to a spec that will allow you to do what you want when it comes to video editing/conversion. |
