I'm thinking about getting my ears pierced, it's something I've always wanted for as long as I can remember but have never done it. It seems to be more popular amongst men these days and I'm sure that virtually everyone would have no thoughts or opinions on it either way as it doesn't do any harm to anyone.

My problem is that my wife is totally against it, really hates it and always has. She wasn't bothered when I had my nipples pierced about 15 years ago and she soon came to love those but obviously those are hidden and nobody else knows. Should I just do it and see what happens?

It is far too expensive these days to get your ears pierced. It was far cheaper in 1990.

My own personal opinion is that pierced ears on men over the age of 25 looks naff. I saw a couple of blokes yesterday, they must've been in their 60's, with earrings in and quite frankly they looked ridiculous. But they're your ears, your money and it's not up to me what you do with them.

I think you should listen to your wife and not have it done. Your employer might not like them either.

I think you're being generous by saying over 25. I'd personally say anyone over 18.

Earrings for men were sort of ok in the 80's/early 90's but then so was bleach blond hair and rolled up jeans. Times change, fashions change and I personally think earrings on men look a bit naff and low rent.

I'm surprised the OP said it's popualr with men these days though. I haven't seen a man with an earring for about 10 years. Seen plenty of men with closed up holes from back in the day though

Plenty of goth/metal/alternative types with pierced ears, many of them over 25. That look works - not sure about Lewis Hamilton/Ashley Cole-style sparkly studs though.

I have had mine done for some time now, and just at the begging of December started stretching them. So, Im a fan, I think that age doesnt always matter, it can depend on your look, your face and such other factors. It can be different for everyone. If you want it done, then you should and at least give it a try. If it doesnt suit, then take it out. No harm can come.

I too feel it was more of an 80's thing. I have never liked them on men and would go mad at my husband if he came home with his ears pierced. At the same time it would be his choice, but he wouldn't get the ok from me.

One of my colleagues always wears a little sparkly ear stud. It doesn't look tacky, it actually looks quite nice. I would agree with the OP that earrings for men seem to be coming back again. Anyway, regardless of that, if you've always wanted to get your ears pierced for years, then you probably should!

There are loads of nice earrings for men, I got my ear pierced and never regretted it. Wasn't expensive at all either.

Although I am on the side of thinking it looks a bit naff, I always have even when it was popular, I have seen kids with them and it looks equally as bad on them as grown men.

But I do have to say Beckham and Beiber for the comment above, Beckham has had his earring until very recently has he? This isn't to say it is popular but I thought you might have seen him in the past 10 years

Funny you say that, I took mine out on my 30th birthday, so I agree with what you say.

The ones that look really naff are the ones that look like big bootlace holes.

why not try the ' arse hanging out of your trousers' look first, and if you get on ok with that get a pair of sparkly diamond earings later

looks a bit naff i think but they're your lugholes, why not flaunt them if you like
