Buying an album: do you download or buy the physical CD?

For me, the answer is easy. I never download an album online and always buy the physical CD. It saves all the hassle of backing it up, when transferring it to an iPod and it's something that can be kept forever. I do on the other hand always download the odd single.

same. i love the experience. buying it physically, showing love to the artist. i actually take the time to do it, they spent an age on it, so i should at least physically buy it. and the market agrees. only a max. of 25% of albums are downloaded. shows that most young people (who do buy albums, dont physically buy them - adele shows that trend)

Buy the CD. I like going into a music shop and spending a good couple of hours just looking around, seeing what there is, listening to stuff in the booths, walking out with the actual CD and artwork, etc. I sometimes download the odd song when it's the only song on an album or soundtrack I want and I don't want to shell out for a whole album when it's just for one track.

For me its a mixture, if its an artist i really like then i will wait to go out and get the CD, but if its someone who i do like but not really that much, or just have a passing interest in them then i wont bother and i'll just do the download.

Download, unless I haven't enough credit on my iTunes account or the CD is reasonably cheap or on special offer.

I buy the CD unless it is something I can't find anywhere in which case I download, which with my tastes is a lot.

Same here...

I stick it on the PC and then keep the CD safe as the "master" copy.

Always buy physical. You have to be pretty stupid to buy a lower bitrate version of something that should sound so good ?

Well I don't have much space left for more CDs so the last few albums I've bought have been from iTunes...I won't stop buying CDs altogether but I have to think hard because of the lack of space...

Every single or album I've purchased since 2007 has been made online via iTunes or Amazon MP3.

I care about the music, not the packaging!

It depends, if it's an artist I love I will buy the physical CD (including singles if I can), but otherwise I just buy off Amazon MP3 or whatever - I've lost count of the times I've wasted petrol going to buy a CD to find that none of the supermarkets have it, and sometimes HMV don't or it's a ridiculously high price. (It's too far to drive to take the risk that they don't have it)

Physical CD ALWAYS...think i've only ever downloaded one song off itunes.
i prefer looking at the artwork, reading the lyrics (if there any) and looking at the song credits.

Yeah, I'm old-fashioned in that I still buy (or order
online) CDs.
My parents still have a cupboard full of old vinyl albums
from the 1970s (they get kudos points for including
ones by Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison and Johnny
Cash ).

Always the physical unless the price difference is massive.

An example of that would be the Foo Fighters new album, which was £3 on release day for download on Amazon. Easy decision to go for the download then.

Unless its really cheap - like the amazon £3.99 downloads of the week or whatever, I always buy physical cds.
