Sylvain out for a while...
TheAuburnEnigma
23-12-2011
Just seen on DS that Sylvain's injured himself and so his partner Heidi Range has to work with a temporary skater for a few weeks.

They don't seem to know when he'll be back - "latter stages" I think it said, so looks as though he might not be in it at all (aside from pro skates) this series.

Well we now know one pairing for certain, wonder who everyone else is with?

I dislike the thought of Sylvain coming back half way through.

Whoever begins the show with Heidi should just remain her partner.

I agree with you. This set-up seems so weird.

But then there would be no reserve skater to stand in for any other problems that may happen.
If its the same format as before then they'll probably not have Heidi on skating until week 2 to hopefully have Sylvain better by then but by having Heidi now train with the reserve will get them ready and used to each other INCASE hes not fully recovered.

Hopefully Sylvain will be better quickly, but if he's not it will seem odd Heidi changing partners. Don't think anyone has started with a reserve before have they?

If it was Matt or Dan injured, I can understand them wanting to ditch the reserve to get them back, but nobody else on this show is irreplaceable and the reserve should definitely be given a proper chance. Sylvain only ever skated for 4 weeks and didn't do the tour so he's hardly one of the A-listers yet. So if he's out for more than, say, 2 weeks, when he's recovered the fairest thing would be for him to go back to being the reserve.

I'm gutted for the guy though, it's a horrible thing for him to suffer and he hasn't had chance to live up to his potential on the show. But DOI has to do what's fairest for the competition, not manipulate things in the hope of some sexual chemistry.

So basically your saying that Sylvain is worthless and should be thrown on the scrapheap due to an injury he recieved while training for the show? And because he only got to week 4 hes not worthy of another chance? As for the tour he would have done it but Jen couldnt commit to it due to her work.
And why if it had been Matt or Dan should they get special treatment just because they have been there the longest and have both won the show? Same rule for all as far as Im concerned.
As for the comment about manipultation well theyve done that from the start with Dan and Gaynor making out there was something more than there was ever going to be. And as for last series with the rubbish with Brianne/Sam/Chloe are they arent they and all the lies that went with that...............
And as for every year trying to have it that Dans copping off with his partner to try and get a press story......................
DO they really think we're THAT thick???

I do agree with this post apart from one very important detail: no exceptions should be made for the 'A List' pro skaters like Matt and Dan. If Sylvain is unfit for the first few weeks, the reserve pro should become Heidi's regular partner IMO. Otherwise the competition will become very unfair as Heidi will just be getting used to one partner, then she'll be put back with Sylvain again.

I'm a big fan of some of the DOI pros but NONE of them are truly irreplaceable!

No, I am NOT saying Sylvain's worthless and should be thrown on the scrapheap, that's perfectly obvious from my post. I've said I'm gutted for him and it's a shame he hasn't had chance to live up to his potential.

All I was trying to do was put him into perspective with the other skaters. He HAS only ever skated on the show for 4 weeks and not done a tour but now they're saying that however well the reserve does he'll be dumped to get Sylvain back. All that for some vague attempt at building up some sexual chemistry. I don't care about romances/showmances no matter who they're between, I want to watch the skating. Which is why I'd rather watch the reserve come in and build up his relationship with Heidi rather than have all his hard work chucked in the bin so Sylvain can come back and claim all the glory at the end.

No matter how much potential Sylvain has (and I think he's got LOADS before you jump down my throat again ) it just doesn't seem fair to give him or ANYONE special favours. If they're out for more than a couple of weeks at the start of the series then sadly it's only fair to everyone that they should stay out. For the record I don't think Matt, Dan, Frankie, Brianne or any of the other better known pros should be given special favours either. I just think that if they were crocked there would be more of a clamour from the fans to get them back in the show when they're better.

At the end of the day the reserve is there to fill in and they know this when they agree to be the reserve, I dont think we'll need to worry about any showmance between Heidi and the reserve IF its who I think it is!
And just waiting on the comments if Im correct as to who it is.

Your assuming rather a lot to begin with that Heidi will either A be good enough or B be popular enough to last more than a few weeks to enable Sylvain to come back if he is fit enough it may be the case that she goes out early days and it wont be an issue anyway. Also it depends how quickly his injury heals, some people are lucky to recover quickly whereas some will take longer.

However I will disagree with you to a point though you are saying about the hard work put in by the reserve skater. Sylvain has also put in a massive amount of hard work as he will have helped to get her to whatever standard she currently is and that has been going on since early November so you can hardly Sylvain would be coming in and taking the credit for the reserves hard work as the reserve is coming in after a lot of the training has taken place and the routine having been choreographed and mostly learned yes during the show it will potentially be the reserve skater working with Heidi but apparently Sylvain will still have input in the routines. It worked on SCD this year with Brendan having to fill in for the other dancers.

Sylvain is probably the best looker on the show in terms of male pros. And most viewers/voters are women. So he will be back as soon as he is ready - in tight trousers and not wearing much on top.

Shallow is as shallow appears - being good looking certainly helps you get the gigs!

After a swift read and comprehension of ValW's post I came to a very different conclusion to yours and wonder how on earth you deduced the following from her comments.
Quote:

This is my brief understanding of her post:

In her opinion, calling on a reserve to replace an injured pro for much of the competition, only for the original pro to return and perhaps take the partner in question to the latter stages of the contest would be unfair to the reserve.

Clearly not everyone will agree. This is after all a forum and as such will generate many diverse opinions, but my personal experience is that it's never wise to practically rewrite another poster's comments.

Well that's one way of making sure you can claim correct guesswork!

I get the impression Sylvain will be back - once his injury is healed and Andrei will go back to Teesside to carry on his skating training job. That of course assumes we vote for the Sugababe!

I get the impression Sylvain is not coming back, as his injury will take a while to heal. Broken bone perhaps?

I suppose it does, but so does being good at your job. It's still about the skating to me.

If the article I read is right, then Andrei has said that he'll be in the show up to 5 months (I assume that includes the tour), if he does well, so IMO I agree with this.

Not sure if its' the article linked above though.

I thought Heidi was engaged so the question of a showmance seems a moot point anyway.
