My mum is in rehabilitation since she fell and had to have a hip replacement, but will be discharged soon.

The accident occurred because she got up too quickly and fell on the way to answering the phone. We are proposing to buy a few cordless phones, to try and prevent history repeating itself. The only concern I have is that she wears a pendant, which she presses if she has a fall, linked to a phone into a social services alarm system.

Can any body tell me whether it is possible to have both the warden alarm type phone, plus cordless phones? In theory the solution is to buy a “splitter” and to have one line connected to the warden alarm system and the other to the cordless phones.

Any advice would be welcome

Yes. For a 90-year-old relative, I have set up just such an alarm/pendant device's base station plugged into one side of a telephone doubler plug and a cordless phone base station plugged into the other side.

Obviously, a pair of power sockets are also needed at or near to the same location.

To cover the 'rushing to the phone' aspect, a second cordless handset in its separate charging pod is located adjacent to the 90-year-old's armchair and a third, also in its own charging pod, on her bedside table.

I went a stage further by using cordless handsets with big buttons too.

Thanks for the advice, which is really helpful. I must admit I overlooked the issues of the big buttons, which is also important.
