The Government and local authorities are rightly trying to encourage people to use public transport, but it is difficult to get cheap travel information.

In the North East (and many other parts of the country) the Travel Line service operates with 0871 numbers, which cost 35 pence a minute, from a mobile. This is a money making racket. Unfortunately, Travel Line has “cottoned onto” the “Say no to 0870” geographic numbers, which are being stopped.

The solution? A limited number of the Travel Lines still use geographic numbers, like Metro line in Leeds, so the best thing is to ring that number and ask to be transferred to the Travel Line of your choice in other parts of the country!
