PS Have been watching Call the Midwife, set only 10 years or so after the period covered by the book - interesting contrast!

Off to see mum - be back later

I watched Call The Midwife because it was Sunday night and nothing was on lol, but was so pleased I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it

They are obviously an amazing organisation from their Facebook page, and there's a video on YT behind the scenes, it's a big company, they did entertainment at Jonathan Ross' Xmas party lol.

Will some kind soul please bump this for discussion tomorrow early tomorrow morning. I have a hospital appt on Thursday at the crack of dawn so discussion should finish at about 7 am on Thursday

These are the discussion questions for THE SECRETS OF BLETCHLEY PARK. Feel free to answer any or all of them.

1. According to one Bletchley codebreaker codebreaking/intelligence work was gentlemanly. What do you think he meant? Do you think codebreaking/intelligence work is still 'gentlemanly'?

2. What do you think could have been the catastrophic consequences of leaking information to the Russians?

The following two questions can be considered together or separately

3. One Bletchley codebreaker stated that the codes he worked on were passed on to another section and he wasn't curious as it wasn't any of his business. Is this a peculiarly British trait of the time or do you think it would hold true today? Does this 'Britishness' exist today?

4. The silence surrounding Bletchley Park was considered bery British. Neal Achison, whose sister worked at Bletchley thinks we wouldn't be able to keep such silence today. Do you agree? Why?

5. At Bletchley Park the codebreakers started musical societies, discovered art etc. What would the codebreakers of today do for leisure?

6. In today's multicultural Britain, do you think a film could stir the current generation to the patriotism of the Bletchley codebreakers?

7. Could the current generation rise to the challenge of Bletchley, considering the concentration and patience involved?

8. At the time the first codebreakers were recruited from the upper classes. Why? Who would the first people to be recruited today do you think?

9. After reading the book, what was your overall impression? Did it help you have a better understanding of the period? How?

I dont think Jonathan Ross's wife has ever wanted exactly to be in the background, not with her bright red hair!!

But she is much more of a writer/journalist/ producer, than a major celeb, as well as stardust and x men, she also was involved in writing books and publicising the whole X files series.......

Oh I cant resist....do I have to answer in sentences? Or can I just use one word answers?

can anyone guess what ive been doing today????

1. According to one Bletchley codebreaker codebreaking/intelligence work was gentlemanly. What do you think he meant? Do you think codebreaking/intelligence work is still 'gentlemanly'?

No I dont think codebreaking or intelligence work has ever been gentlemanly.....cos if you were a gentle man you wouldnt be going around eavesdropping on anyone else....!!!

Id imagine the idea of it being gentlemanly is more about it being a rich persons game.....so that everyone knows everyone else, and knows their background and ancestors....And wasnt there a section in the book about the snobbery between certain characters, who refused to accept more working class people as being valuable.......

and also about the levelling and interaction between the different social groups at Bletchley, how you could talk to someone and not realise that they were a lady??

When I read this I realised I dont actually have a clue what advantages there are today in having a title, apart from being able to vote in the House of Lords. But is this naive? Are there any benefits today to having a title in the UK?

If Sherrie might be on TV at the weekend, think it must be right to remind ourselves of her radiant beauty which may have helped nurse John back to emotional health after his unhappy encounter with Josie.

So I'll start a little countdown . . . . and at No 5, it's:

John and Sherrie strolling in a Melbourne park ...

Thanks Johnathan I thought I'd landed on another planet when I read that last night lol. I think there may be pics of Sherrie from about three weeks ago but I could be wrong. I know she has stilt walker trained on her profile but I think muggins is right when she says she's a 'glow girl'. I feel like a stalker.

Saints preserve us I'm not sure anyone's safe with you and your pom poms. They could see their public liability premiums go through the roof.

Bloomin' heck Marion, I've just printed off the questions so I could peruse them while cooking my fragrant curry. I'm now heading to join georgy in the corner for slackers.

Note to self: Wonder if I can persuade hubby to pop to Sainsbury's on his own as I now have homework.

Ye it is working alright on the internet. My C drive was faulty and it has been replaced.I have all my documents in a back up but no microsoft software.I am on Easter break until mid April.I dont really work during breaks, writing is damn exhausting but sometimes you remember things and have to write them in in the momment so it useful to have the computer all ready all the time.Hopefully it wont take long to sort out.
