Well yes

I guess if you're feeling sad having a focus or plan makes things a bit easier or something

Morning all.

I don 't actually think that was the only problem.

From what we know John has a small circle of very loyal friends who he has known for years - in fact, grown up with them. John is affable and pleasant but I don't think he makes new friends easily. Add to that he was from a different country, his temper (which I think had a lot to do with the death of his father) and the only child syndrome (over-indulged) I sometimes wonder how he lasted in the house as long as he did.

I think all this 'chasing' of Govan and Josie was insecurity. He had to feel as if he belonged. The group was quite large - something he wasn't used to and I don't think he ever met anyone like Ben or Shabby or Mario. He comes from a very small town outside Melbourne and if it is anything like small-town America you don't have a large demographic mix.

Good morning

Well he was up for eviction a four times, saved 3 by the public, and surely his relationship with Josie had a lot to do with that, plus his looks There were obviously many who felt that the JJJ relationship ruined BB11 for them, but also a lot of people who voted to keep John in to see that relationship develop - and I imagine there was a lot of block voting going on, plus Josie supporters voting for John. Had he not been duvet-diving with Josie I do wonder if he would have left sooner - if just-John supporters would have been enough to save him the first 3 times. It would have been an interesting scenario, as many have said before, if John and Josie had been up for nomination together; looking at it honestly (from how things were back then) I would say he would have been a goner.

What you say about John's home town, agree with absolutely. Although he'd travelled a bit, I think that was with his core group of friends and, as much as you see some of the world, it's not like living with such a mixed bunch of people - and certainly you don't bump into a Ben on every street corner (for which many of us are thankful )

Morning Just wanted to say I've really enjoyed these discussions, hoping to get involved in one of them some time.

Here's a question I am asking on a few of the AT's -

On the first night, who did you THINK would be the winner?

And who did you WANT to be the winner, based on your first impressions?

I thought STEVE would win.

On first impressions, I wanted Mario to win.. how things soon change!

Aah I just answered this on twitter as I saw it posted next door but wanted to answer, glad you posted it here.

I was exactly the same, I loved Mario initially and wanted him to win, Steve seemed like the overly obvious choice as winner

Hope you are well Cheeky

I often wondered if Mario would have been a different housemate had he not had Ben to lust over... I think he became quite bitter about that situation.

Hi again Cheeky

Glad you're enjoying the discussions.

I find it hard to think back to that first night......but yes, I think I thought that Steve would stand a good chance. Also, I remember I thought John was hot......and my daughter disagreed from the start !!

I didn't know who I wanted to win though - I usually take longer to make up my mind

Do you know, I thought John was hot later into BB - I think he softened (or perhaps it was just getting to 'know' him a bit), but on opening night I thought he looked cocky and didn't like his smile, and his hair - too 80's over-dyed/streaked and too short lol

Of course, the entry vids never help give a good impression of anybody either do they

I loved his smile, the way I felt he engaged with Davina, and the way he bounded up those steps - I can see it now

I agree about the hair, though - I think I excused him that on grounds of cultural difference, being Australian - or something like that, anyway!

Hi all, oh my goodness so many long posts to read and consider. I don't log on for a day and this is what happens - all behind now, lol. It's great to see though and I shall look forward to reading back.

This is only a quickie as I have a mountain of things to do today as I'm out again all day tomorrow.

Sorry Lindy, replying to pm now.

BIB 1 I’m not sure about that, at the time he had a huge fanbase in his own right. On FB there were rakes of either John or JJJ fan pages but hardly any for Josie alone. Actually his mates Paul and Harris had pages for him. He was the 9th most talked about person on FB in the UK in 2010, and yep lots of bad in with the good. Also when he came out of the house there was a buzz around him, even up to Xmas John was winning or coming close to winning polls left right and centre, hottest this that and the other. And I found as an occasional reader on the JJJat at the time it used to be more about John than Josie.

But that changed over time when they came out of the house. John is a bit rubbish at promoting himself, whereas Josie was/still is great at it. She talked about him, my peanut is this, my little man is that, i’m the luckiest girl in the world stuff on twitter, where John would not tweet for ages and then when he did he’d get in a row with some random hater for his own fun and he rarely tweeted his supporters. She talked about her twitter family and made people feel included, saying things like “you’re making my dreams come true”. Sending cards to people and really getting involved with them. She was great on twitter and used it to sell the relationship with John to great effect. People got info from Josie which they loved and nothing really from John and it understandably frustrated them. And that tweet where he said he had moved country and was in the UK because of Josie was always being brought up cause people got so little from him. Personally I hated the hard sell, my least favourite thing John did on twitter was when they tweeted each other from the same flat, but then lots of people really enjoyed that.

And when they broke up I would hazard a guess that if John had of done a topless she broke my heart, i’ll never love again thingy with Now or something he would have gotten himself more support (thank goodness he didn’t).

He lives outside Frankston which is actually pretty big, it’s considered a city (a small one) it’s also a holiday spot and up the coast has a really good social scene, so i don’t think it’s that small townish. I get the impression he has a big group of friends, in the house he was talking about how he had different groups of mates, that fulfilled different needs (or something to that effect) some that were really mature and some not so much, it was when he was talking about how sometimes he wanted to climb trees. And how he’d done some odd things in his life, he mentioned his name change, he said he didn’t care if people judged him for it cause if they couldn’t see the funny side that was their problem or something to that effect.

But like you say not too many Bens i'd imagine. Although I think John liked Ben.

What a great question:- Let me think, on the first night and definately for a while there I thought Ben would win. I really dont remember being too bothered who would win until Andrew entered - then I was a big Andrew fan - I found him so amusing and when he interacted with Josie I found it much more interesting than the interactions between JJJ. I liked him a lot - his mum is also very nice and witty spoke to her on twitter.

OK, having lunch so feel less guilty for sitting here instead of doing the chores.

What is going on I wonder?

First we have The Minzz tweeting asking for a link to John's audition video for BB and now we have Jonno tweeting the following a few hours ago:

@uk_JohnJames_oz feed the pony

Wasn't 'feed the pony' one of John's last tweets around Christmas time which is a link to The Inbetweeners?

re BIB I agree with you about John actually being pretty popular in his own right.....

I dont think he himself was that aware of it....and I think actually being part of JJJ didnt do him or his individual popularity that much good...It almost diverted attention away from him and his individual talents....

I was so cross on the first saturday after John had escaped eviction and he was given his TOT task and message from home.... watching it on LF in the morning, .His TOT task was hilarious....and his conversations with the TOT and subsequent tale telling to the other Hm was so clever, ..... and then he had a row with Josie, and none of his TOT task made it to the HL show...

his comic timing and ability to mimic others was so rarely shown on the HL show.

I dont know who I wanted to win on the first few days....its usually a bit hard to know any of them very well.....

My favourites fairly early on were Shabby and John for his sardonic sense of humour.....

but I thought Steve was a likely candidate to win as well.....from the sympathy vote.....

Yes it was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3-CcGQq36M

I think it's just them winding the fans up; the ponies being the girls that like John perhaps or even just the fans? They can contact John easily by text or phone, have no reason whatsoever to tweet him except that they know the supporters will see and respond or speculate or try and read something into it that isn't there at all!

Maybe the clip request was genuine, who would have fast access to that ... his supporters or even his haters lol. But the Johnno one, has to be a wind-up.
