What do you think of Taylor's new track for the Hunger Games soundtrack? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFEDTtKaFzU

I love the books, love Taylor, hopefully I'll love the films!

I love The Civil Wars. They've been one of my favourite new discoveries of 2011. They deserve to be big and even though I'm by no means a fan of Ms Swift if she helps them get there good on her. The song is good as well. The Civil Wars have harmonies to die for.

I didn't like it at first but now starting to really like it. Very different from Taylor and The Civil Wars are indeed supremely talented.

No 1 on US iTunes already!

It's slightly better than her usual mush but still pretty boring tbh, her voice isn't very emotive, I don't FEEL anything when I listen to her! Maybe she'll get better when she gets older.

It must just be personal opinion, because I feel her emotion.

Yeah it's obviously personal - Taylor Swift does zippo (nothing!) for me!

Not for much longer. It had a meteoric rise and its fall will probably match it. The others are catching up fast. Looks like Taylor (even with the help of the amazing Civil Wars) is still waiting for her very first Billboard Hot100 #1. Meanwhile, the artist Geordielady has previously labelled a 'pub singer' Adele's Set Fire To The Rain is up to #4 (soon to be #3) and even though the song is already legally owned by 6 million Americans it's very probably going to be her THIRD Hot100 #1 on the bounce. It's all gone a bit weird in the US of A this year, hasn't it?

PS Merry Xmas everybody!!

Number of singles sold dont mean an artist is not a pub singer.
I doubt the civil wars had anything to do with it getting to no 1 on itunes, thats mostly Taylors doing I have never even heard of the civil wars, guess many others have not either, but everyone has heard of Taylor

Thanks for your very insightful post but we are not interested about what Adele is doing. This is a thread about the Safe and Sound song, Shame you Adele fans always like to bring her up in Taylor's thread. Really boring actually.

Yes, the parts where Joy Williams is helping Taylor out it's rather beautiful (but that's because Joy is a great singer, in the studio and live). But then Taylor starts singing solo and....ouch. I'm amazed Swift has allowed such a talented singer to share a song with her to be honest. Brave or deluded? You decide. If the US really had pubs........

PS markmc2k5, this will be out of the Top 5 tomorrow. Sad, 'cos I really like The Civil Wars.

Not a fan of Taylor's voice in this.
I think it would have suited someone like Amy Lee to sing this.

Video has been released. I love this track and the video is so simple but haunting, really does the job. The subtle Hunger Games references were fun to spot too.

Lol, The Civil Wars make this. I had the great pleasure yesterday of listening to their music, absolutely sublime. They are absolutely perfect together and their vocals are to die for. Of course people will have heard of The Civil Wars, they just won 2 grammy's. I will be purchasing their album today.

The Civil Wars are undoubtedly the next big thing in country/pop/folk (even The Grammys didn't know how to categorise their music because they won in both the folk and country categories!). Their album is superb, their songwriting is fantastic and they have chemistry/harmonies to die for. Plus they are FANTASTIC live. If you haven't had a listen to their stuff yet, have a look at my thread and take it from there. They are well worth a listen, believe me.

But taylor wrote the song and taylor is a billion times bigger then them, without her the song would never be, and she is helping to get them on the map, which of course is a good thing as its clear they are very talented. Teaming up with taylor will fire the Civial wars into a massive public exposure like nothing they have had before.

Its a good song which proves what a talent taylor is not only as a songwriter but having the ability to just walk into any situation and own it.
And both taylor and the CW play off each other remarkably well, another reason the song works so well.

“Safe & Sound” was written by Taylor Swift, the Civil Wars and T-Bone Burnett, the film’s composer.

Like I said in post #2 I agree Taylor Swift's name will definitely help them in the US but their Grammys wins have helped even more if you check where the album is currently on Amazon US (up many many places on the CD list and #3 on the Amazon downloads chart, behind Whitney and Adele!). They are most definitely on their way to stardom and I for one am only too happy to acknowledge that Ms Swift played some part (of whatever size it was) in that. She is after all a very big fan of them and has been for quite a while, apparently. Adele has also helped them in that regard.

Taylor brought the song to the table, it was a song she had laid down prior to the get together. Of course it was a joint callabration to get it into record form that we hear now and it may well have been changed from what taylor origionally wrote but the song and idea were taylor's creation from the outset.
