I was about to buy the leapfrog tablet for my newphew but then I read that it requires 4x AA batteries which is just archaic IMO, compared to how far we've come in rechagable battery technology for tablets and laptops.

I would like to get a devicew which is super easy to use and great educational wyse.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations here.. don't really care about getting it for christmas day. any time in the next 2 weeks is fine.

4 AAs sounds great to be honest. Buy 8 rechargeables, job done. Never have to worry about forgetting the charger on holiday, you can pick up AAs anywhere in the world.

edit: the way this is worded suggests that you can just charge them in the tablet. sounds good to me

Yes, totally crazy it uses AA batteries

It's designed for kids and they don't want to have to wait for it to charge now and again - they will just want to use it so I think the AA batteries is a good idea.

If you want rechargeable just get a charger and some batteries and always have some ready to go for him.

If you are talking about the leappad tablet, I had a look at it last week for somebody and tbh, I wouldn't bother. You are better off with a 7" android tablet like the archos.

That's what I figured. Kids play with anything but its still best to have something you can grow with.

We got a Playbase for our baby. It's a ruggedised Android tablet.

I bought an Innotab for my son, it's probably good for a child up to 4 years old but older than that no, same with the Leappad imo. My son looked at it for a few minutes then put it down. I should have known really as he uses my iPad all the time; I'll give him my old one when I upgrade.
