Oh trust me I know that song! I'm a huge rihanna fan so I know the Drake is featured on that track but that's the only one I've heard him on...

I didn't even know he was a solo singer or rapper.

Yeah, that song was indescribedly massive this time last year! You'd have to have been living under a rock not to know it, although there are people out there that go to extreme measures to actively try and avoid all popular songs, so I suspect there are some people that don't know it.

Drake is very popular though. No offense to anyone here, but people who post on Internet forums aren't exactly Drake's target audience lol. Most people that like Drake are probably young people with big social lives.

He's primarily a rapper, although his recent album probably has as much singing on as it does rapping tbh.

As a Rihanna fan, you should know him better since he dated Rihanna briefly last year, which is why he featured on What's My Name? The song describes two people having sex (Drake's verse at the beginning outlines the foreplay), so it's appropriate that they did that song together.

IMO he's brilliant.
His album in 3 weeks has almost achieved what his debut album did in its entire run. In the US he has sold over 1m in teh first three weeks alone.
He sold over 630k in the US in it's debut week, surely one of the biggest debuts of the last couple of years. Worldwide he must be over 1.5m in the first three weeks.

His new album is probably the most critically acclaimed album of the year. I have seen no critics criticizing it, and it has got exceptional reviews from everyone I know.

And he has some brilliant songs. Take Care being the most recent, but for rapping ability, Uptown is quite incredible.

During his entire debut album, most people didn't know him. Normally first albums grab people, his album was brilliant, but he has just started to become massive.

As for tour tickets, they were all gone within 70 seconds or something. Was so annoyed

Yeah, his first week album sales were the highest of 2011 behind only Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne, who both sold roughly 1 million first-week.

I'd say he was very popular during his first album, and even before, back in his mixtape days. But it is amazing to watch him grow in popularity like this. And it's amazing his tours sold out like that, since even really popular rappers can struggle to sell out live shows.

Because people have different tastes. Not everyone can be universally loved

Think he has also announced a tour of UK for 2012 recently too.

His mixtapes still today shit over a lot of the albums rappers make today.

He really was a game changer in the context of mixtapes IMO..

Good. witty rapper if not sometimes a bit monotone.. hes like the radio friendly rapper that has actual talent.

I agree. I'm happy to see him so popular at the moment, since I love Drake, but there's lots of other rappers that I think deserve the recognition he's getting too.

That's what I think. I did listen to some of his songs on YT earlier and I wasn't really that impressed. They sounded really boring and mediocre to me. I like What's My Name though but that's because it's really a Rihanna song more than a Drake song.

First mainstream track I heard him in was Say something with Timbaland. For me he's better than most new / recent acts, be it hiphop / rap, or pop.

If you like Over I am not sure how you can say that's the one good song he has.

For me, I'm not a big fan of either album. But he is putting together a considerable catalogue of one off tracks when he sticks to Hiphop.

Club Paradise
Paris Morton Music
Forever
Free Spirit
Over
Dreams Money Can Buy
Fear
I'm On One

This is my problem with him as well. On top of that his voice always sounds really nasally and it sounds horrible on his records.

Fireworks (ft Alicia Keys)
Uptown
Forever (ft Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West)
