BBC news has a different format.

BBC News has its own Android app for mobiles. I expect there's an iPhone equivalent.

(Oops that doesn't help with Kindle )

Quick question and sort of related so decided not to do a new thread!

Does it matter where you buy the kindle from? I want one for my birthday next week so it's being bought for me from Argos or Tesco I think! Would I miss out on any deals from amazon that I would be entitled to if I bought from them direct?!

No, you have to associate your Kindle to your Amazon account anyway so you would be able to take advantage of any offers.

Are there any offers with a new Kindle anyway ???

other than some books on Amazon are £0.00

Yeah I think I misread that. If you buy a Kindle from anywhere, you can take advantage of any Kindle book offers on Amazon.

I haven't seen any bundles myself, though I think my sister got a discount voucher last year (and no, it wasn't the wine club one that comes with every order!).

No-one know anything about the home button issue I spoke about in post 12 then to save me having to go out to the store tomorrow to investigate demo models?

Sorry I have the keyboard version, but on that one there is definite movement on the Home button when pressed. It doesn't click as such, but it is a pronounced in-out (if you see what I mean!).

Thanks for the information.

I got one for Christmas and I love it!

I haven't done any proper reading on it yet, but I've been reading through the manual on it and it's great. I have a little clip-on light from Poundland and have been reading it in the dark at night.

msim, like Barry59 I have the keyboard version and the home button works the same way as all the other buttons.

One thing, though, the webpages loaded very quickly, while I had the idea they would be slow. I'm on VirginMedia 'up to 10Mb', which is fast, but not exceptional these days.”

Thank you, that's interesting. I guess an eReader is for ebooks essentially, or any documents tailormade for it. As some have mentioned a mobile version of a website might help with live browsing. I'd probably want to download html files over time and put them on a device for later, which I think will require converting with this calibre program that people recommend.

Some of the Kindle books on Amazon, esecially the "collected works" type, refer to an "active index", or "active table of contents". What's this, and how does it work?

I got one on the understanding I would get rid of all my books and rebuy them for the kindle, now I'm being told that it is a bit dear to keep on buying them!!! I was given a voucher for xmas and it has been suggested that I keep checking my wish list to see if they have gone down in price and then order. If I order a book I am met with 'was that on your list!!' I Love the idea of it but to be honest I feel a row brewing if my OH asks that question one more time!!

Is that you can select an entry in the contents/index and it will take you straight to that page?

I finally gave in and got a Kindle but now the battery is low and I seem to have been charging it for ages via the USB cable supplied.

How long should it take to fully charge?

Is it faster using a mains cable instead?

Lots of freebies here, classics in the main.

I've never tried charging my Kindle from a USB connection on my computer - I have always used the mains adapter on the rare occasions it's needed charging. I don't know, but I would imagine the charging current from a computer USB connection would be a lot less.

Why would you not use the mains adapter as a first choice?

USBs output the same power whether on USB from computer or USB from a main adapter, they should take about the same time.

We've only charged ours twice but think it was a couple of hours, then lasted a couple of weeks of heavy use.

You can get a lot of free books here as well.

I've just started using my generic binatone e-reader and i'm pleasantly surprised how much I like it compared to the likes of a kindle or a sony e-reader.
