.... Brilliant writing and acting to the reason why it was canceled years ago. Just watched the christmass episode, honestly is that the best they could do.

IMV no season of Doctor Whosince it has come back was as strong as McCoy's last one which finally saw the fruition of the Cartmel master plan and finally delivered what it was threatening to deliver in the previous season.

Moff has not done a bad job, it is just different to the RTD years. No different to comparing Graham Williams to Hinchcliffe, Hinchcliffe to Letts etc etc.

It was fine until the series just finished and then it just lacked something.

No it hasn't. Go home.
Yes, maybe the Christmas episode wasn't that good, but if you watched last series, could you say with absolute sincerity that "The Day of the Moon", "The Doctor's Wife", "A Good Man Goes to War", "The Girl Who Waited" or even "The God Complex" was Doctor Who at its lowest.

It really annoys me that after seeing an episode that people didn't like they start complaining that the show is going to be cancelled, even though they completely ignore all the other episodes in the series which, in only my opinion, are Doctor Who at its absolute best.

There is also a difference between the show going downhill and personal dislike of the show. Many people nowadays complain that it has gone downhill simply because they are incapable of coping with the slight change in style.

Ooh. Awkward. Did you think that they cancelled it in 1989 because you didn't like an episode?

I'm not saying that's definitely not the case, but if so they really should have had you on that documentary on the Survival DVD.

Also - there are only three dots in an ellipsis.

I don't think the show is THAT bad

Since 2005, it has had its ups and downs but that's to be expected when you have a constantly evolving main cast, and a constant change of setting as well.

I haven't enjoyed the last three episodes of Doctor Who (Closing Time, The Wedding of River Song, and The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe) but there were plenty of people who did. Before this, I absolutely loved the episodes before this (Lets Kill Hitler, Night Terrors, The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex) but there were many people who disliked some or all of those. No episode is going to appeal to absolutely everyone, and the sooner people realise that, the sooner we can maybe stop blowing opinions out of proportion and the sooner we can stop making ridiculous presumptions about the show.

Moffat's Doctor Who is tonally different from RTD's and one of the biggest changes has been the diversity of episodes... more unique locations, more opportunities, less Earth-based stories (and this is not a put-down of RTD, who I also feel did a brilliant job). Of course the downside to this, is that it plays a great gamble, as its more likely to divide the audience. There is a greater chance that a solid number of people are going to find something to dislike, as its trying something a bit more different week on week.

One of the greatest things about being a regular viewer of Doctor Who (I don't like the word 'fan' :P ) is that you can walk away from some episodes feeling disappointed, but can go on to the next one and be shockingly impressed, breathing new life into your enthusiasm. Sure, I'm not too fond of the last three episodes we've had, and as such my interest in the show isn't at its peak... but I'll come back to watch Series 7 when it starts next year and will likely find an episode that restores my enthusiasm and interest once more.

The series was cancelled in 1989 due to a number of factors, include complex internal politics within the BBC.

Irrespective of people's personal opinion about last night's episode (I liked it), the viewing figures suggest there's little likelihood of the BBC cancelling the show now.

I am a lifelong fan, but dislike the current era immensely. I can see though that it is still very popular. It's just very much not my cup of tea, and the least Doctor Who like the show has ever been, IMHO.

Each to his or her opinion, but I can't agree with that at all. I find the Smith era much closer to Classic Who than either the Eccleston or Tennant eras.

Actually, I'm just going to pretend that the first post starts '... strength to strength'.

This will have the advantage of some factual basis.

You judge a show on a series, not one special.
I've watched Dr. Who from the very beginning ( No, not 1995, but 1963 )
I have to admit that from 1995 it has improved 100%
every show has its dud episodes.
Will anyone here miss Amy Pond, i will, she is the feisty companion like Jo Grant

Well I only came in because it wasn't clear from the thread title that this was a trumped up whining thread, hope that knowing you've drawn unsuspecting people in to your ellipses- titled whinge fest gives you a little frisson of excitement
