Gobsmacked that Hurt has tumbled from last week's debut of #8 all the way down to #68. I think all three tracks on the LP are amazing! What on earth has happened?

Her fans bought it upon its release through some sort of misplaced loyalty.

Nobody else bothered to buy it afterwards.

No radio airplay and no video. The only promo it had was XF and RVP which can do only so much!

It wasn't a proper single anyway, the EP is a gift to her fans so it's brilliant that it reached #8 in the first place. The lead single from Glassheart will be out in the new year.

Nope. Apparently that was just a buzz single. Either way the project will be re-launched next year and even if it was the intended first single it won't be anymore.

Wait, what?

"Buzz singles" and "gift EPs for her fans?

You're having a laugh!

No video.

Lack of radio airplay.

Lack of promotion.

Simples.

Collide was a disaster. The Avicci scandal ruined its success and damaged her credibility. They've obviously gone back to the drawing board and the ep is just something to quell unrest from diehards over the xmas period

I think she's finished.

No song falls 60 places like that, and she only made top 10 due to a) her name and b) X-Factor.

It wasn't a buzz single, it was just a random summer single, said by Leona herself. Who keeps spreading the buzz single nonsense?

Anyway, Hurt's position was great that was off the back of two performances, she had no video/airplay at all

I always laugh when I read this.

Collide was not a buzz single. It was the lead single from the Glassheart album which was supposed to have been out in November. The single flopped and her label put the album back because they didn't want to release it on the back of an underperforming first single and at such a busy time of the year. They can spout of the excuse of "more inspiration" as the reason for putting it back all they want but they were scared the album would also flop.

Collide was in no way advertised as a buzz single when it was first released, fans are only calling it that now because it flopped.

It's a crap cover and isn't worthy, to be honest. I haven't even listened to the other tracks on the EP. I can't be bothered as I am simply sick to the back teeth of half-arsed cover songs at the moment.

I used to adore Leona but I think she's reaching washed-up has-been status already. I've gone from being a megafan to losing interest in here more or less completely during the course of 2011. I can't remember the last time I witnessed such a mis-managed career. She should have been this generation's version of Mariah Carey in terms of success.

I don't think she's finished but her label NEED to take risks with her, they've been following the same formula with every release ('lets promote it with a cover of a rock song on the XF'). She promoted Spirit Deluxe with Run, after Happy flopped/underperformed/whatevered she promoted Echo with SCYHO, she's promoting this - which is a whole EP of covers of rock songs - with a cover of a rock song. They need to move on.

To put it into context; how ridiculous would it be if every time Beyonce released something she released a cover of a 70s disco classic, performed it once on XF and then expected it to sell her music?

I adore Leona, she's easily my 2nd favourite vocalist, but either her or her team have majorly cocked things up. She was one of the biggest names in music in 2008/2009, she was breaking records WORLDWIDE. She was selling singles and albums across the globe. You can put that down to the XF in the UK, and possibly in the US, but she was succesful in Europe, Asia, etc. which meant people liked her of their own accord. How do you go from that to being wheeled out every December to sing over a montage on the XF?

This. Plus it wasn't even an official single. The fact that it even got into the top 10 is incredible. And yes COLLIDE WAS NOT A BUZZ SINGLE. It was a summer single, which was essentially used as a test to see if Leona and uptempo could work together. In the case of Collide it didn't, but Leona is more than capable of doing an uptempo, it just has to be the right one. Unfortunately for Leona, Syco overlook all the best uptempo tracks for her:

Outta My Head- Would have been perfect follow up to I Got You to launch her tour with, but the label abandoned the entire era after I Got You underperformed

Scene of the Crime - Often considered one of the best [/url]tracks Leona has recorded and certainly the best uptempo track that has emerged. Unfortunately it did not make it on to Echo and has now been given to some obscure artist in Japan. Leona actually had a writing credit on the track as well

Glassheart- Fortunately this will be on the third album, but knowing Syco it will never see the light of day as a single. This would have been the best choice for a summer single in 2011 for Leona- no controversy over plagarism and more instant than Collide

.

The scene of the crime was a good song, Leona's best uptempo and suited her. I just can't keep up with collides official designation, buzz single, Summer song, random summer single, lead single. Anyhow I liked Collide, but it seems to me that Syco release weak uptempos and then when they don't do aswell as they wanted, they quickly get Leona to release a cover ballad and get her on the x-factor. They really have no other strategies at all.

That's unfair.

She'd still go down a storm in Butlins, Haven, Blackpool and the Costas if she did a show with Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward and Leon Jackson.

Oh god, shut up people. This really wasn't a single. Collide was so I don't agree with some fans saying it was a buzz single. It was badly promoted but it WAS a single. Hurt was just as a treat for fans, that's all. She performed it twice because she was on the shows and needed something new to perform. Other than that she hasn't promoted it anywhere else. Had she released a video, sent the song to radio and performed it on tv shows I would have said yes, it is a single. But she didn't.

Yes, plenty of artists release EPs for their fans, a recent example being Lady GaGa - A Very GaGa Holiday. It's like what many rap artists do when they release a mixtape, just a collection of songs for their fans that won't make it onto official album releases.

And like what many have pointed out on this thread, Collide was a summer single.
