just checking, i have a Panasonic tv with built in freesat so if i run 2 new satellite cables from a quad lnb for the foxsat and keep the original plugged into the tv then there is nothing stopping me recording 2 programmes on the foxsat and watching a 3rd on the tv?

Under the right circumstances you can watch a third while recording two with just the Foxsat (in some cases even be able to use live pause).
For example recording BBC1-HD and BBC-HD you can watch any other channel and live pause it.
The programme up down will cycle through available channels and list shows those you can still view.

As Masteriser and grahamlthompson have said, you'll have no problem with that arrangement - in fact it's identical to mine (see the panel on the left of this post).
When I had the dish fitted I had all 4 feeds from the Quad LNB connected to two face plates on the same wall - much to the bemusement of the guy taking the order - so I can run the Panasonic TV, Foxsat HDR and have a spare connection for future expansion. (Humax, if you're reading this, a triple-tuner Freesat PVR would be great

On a similar theme but a different setup.
I have a Humax HDR with each tuner fed by a different dish.
Tuner 1 is fed from a Sky dish with quad LNB and 1 cable directly to tuner 1.
Tuner 2 is fed from a larger dish with 3 LNB's pointing to 28.2, 19.2 and 13.
The LNBs are connected to a single diseqc switch and the "common" then connects to tuner 2.
I've set the Foxsat Antenna setting to "Two Cable(Different)"
Diagnostics report Tuner 1 100% Strength 100% Quality, Tuner 2 85% Strength 100% Quality on BBC1 Oxford (10817V).
Reception from all 3 satellites is good (no rain fade).
However, I get recording conflicts. For example when recording BBC1-HD (10847V) and BBC-HD (10847V) simultaneously, I can only watch one of those 2 channels.
It appears as though the Foxsat is behaving as a single cable setup with no loop through.
What can I do to get the full functionality of the twin tuner in Freesat alongside my requirements for 19.2 and 13?
If I've missed out any information which might help, then please let me know.
I had a similar problem when I first set up my Foxsat-HDR. Went back to factory defaults and it has been happy ever since. I can only assume at some point during the original setup process it decided there was only 1 feed so decided to ignore the second regardless. I couldn't see a way to alter this other than in initial setup.

I know you have to do a Freesat tune first before you can get into non-freesat mode but what after that?

I just plugged it in, followed the on screen prompts and then did a Freesat tune. Don't think I did anythig out of the ordinary, just let it do what it wanted pretty much.
Purely a guess here, might be worth swapping the cables at the back of the Foxsat HDR so that Tuner 1 is fed from the DISEQC switch?

Correct with only 1 switch it has to be on tuner 1.

OK, I found my mistake. I was telling the Humax that the Connection Type was Two Cable(Different).
Following through the link posted above by Graham at point 7 the instructions say to leave this setting alone and go straight to Satellite Setting. The last few times I've been through this I changed the Connection Type at this point.
So this time I've followed the instructions to the end and all seems OK but my Connection Type is still Two Cable (Same)
Now look at point 10 and the Connection Type is Two Cable(Different) How/where did that change?
When would the Connection Type ever be Two Cable(Different)?
