Am I the only person who thinks Nicki Minaj is ridiculously overrated? I just don't get her as an artist, she's not anything special as a rapper and her songs are generic and dull. Just wondered if anyone agreed with me on this.
Nicki Minaj - Overrated?
I would agree her songs are absolutely awful, however I would say she is a special rapper. Her talent as a rapper is to me better than any female that has ever been...just a shame about the material.

except for super bass, her songs are brilliant, so i must disagree with you on that one. pink friday imo was the best album of 2011 by ANY artist

Pink Friday came out last year. Anyway to answer the question, I don't think she's overrated at all. All else I can say is that you know an artist has made some kind of impact when these sort of threads pop up endlessly.

Don't base her on Super Bass and Where Them Girls At.
She has lots of unique and interesting songs as album tracks, and on her mixtapes, and when she raps on other artists albums.

Nicki has talent IMO but I don't think the people controlling her have let her be herself. Even though I haven't seen other female rappers do exactly what she does, she is basically a combination of lil kim (image) and Missy Elliott (offbeat flow, making funny sound effects in her raps etc) with a bit of her original style thrown in to fill in the gaps.
In her 'Black Friday' diss, lil kim actually said that Nicki was 'a put together gimmick, somethin like a collage' and I think she's right.
Hopefully Nicki will find her own style one day and have the confidence to go against the people who are making her copy others rappers so much.

shes on lil waynes label so i think she has plenty of artistic control; and her multiple personalities are her i do believe.
She's had one good song in Super Bass and constantly feels the need to show off her tits at every available opportunity, so yes she is wildely overrated.

Personally I can't stand her, I know she has a lot of fans but she really irritates me. She certainly has some skill as a rapper, but her lyrics are often juvenile and I hate her constant overuse of silly voices etc. to try to make her sound quirky and unique.
She's awful just like everyone else involved with that prick lil Wayne, they claim that they are the cream of hip hop but judging by their music i don't think they know the meaning of the term..
