I haven't seen all the episodes so may have missed a peice of the jigsaw but Steve knows that Tracey is a lying cow capable of murdering for advantage. Why would he believe her story over Becky, whom he knows is fiery but bacically has some moral core?

Was there a lobotomy?

I did a similar thread about the exact same thing. He's had an overnight character change to fit in with the storyline, but it's incredibly frustrating to watch/listen to and I want the entire thing to end asap!!!

You'd think so wouldn't you. Steve was always stupid when it came to women but to believe wholeheartedly in Tracy is foolish beyond words. Selling the pub to buy them a home? He could have stayed with her for a month after the miscarriage and got the hell away from her.

Regardless of whether he believes Tracey or not, he doesn't even like her. It was only a few months ago that he couldn't stand the sight of her. Also even if he was only going out with her for the sake of the kids, he's done this before when Amy was younger and it didn't work out then.

Let's be honest, "common sense" is an ever absent friend whenever Steve gets himself a woman - he's been married about thirty times yet hasn't learned a single thing.

His own track record alone would make any sane person ask themself a few searching questions ..... not Steve though.

Where women are concerned, he's as thick as mud.

Steve deep down knows Tracey is lying and is sticking it out with her because he can't admit he made a mistake and still loves Becky.

Steve has/will never love Tracey imo

Steve can be such a great character, but he's been written so badly lately that it's hard to see who 'Steve' actually is. I'm surprised Simon Gregson is putting up with it. Surely he must see how out of character Steve is being? He's better off when he's on his own.

The problem for steve is that they are both liars

tracy: is a murderer, been in prison, using amy to stay with steve, sold her baby to the croppers amongst some of her worse moments and

Becky: stole money from outside dev's shop while people were dying during the tram crash, went to the barlows house with a sledgehammer and created chaos, been in prison.

he is just uspet cos he has lost 2 kids so he is blaming the obvious choice with out thinking.

Exactly. I was telling the OH on Xmas day that Steve always ends up with these kinds of women and they always 'do him in' in the end.

So it's not just me then

Has there been a thread about soaps where the storyline doesn't make sence or contradict what we have been previously told?

Not ecactly a soap as it was autobiographical but I remember a reunion episode of The Waltons where Mary Ellen was told she couldn't have any more kids but in the last one she has aquired two more without explanation.

Is Becky a liar though? She acts, often when drunk, on impulse and passion but not out of sheer malice and spite like Tracy. She stole that money to save Max, as she saw it. She does have a moral code, unlike Tracy, and Steve knows this.

Becky hasn't always been nice, remember when she first arrived on the street and tried to ruin Kelly's life by framing her for theft amongst other nasty behaviour.

But her character improved, when with Royston and Hayley.

I should think that the scripts must be very confusing for Simon Gregson

That's true, but Tracy has always been evil. Becky was bad at the start but she changed, whereas Tracy's only got worse.

Oh I agree, Becky did get better and become some what resepctable, and Tracey luv well she just got worse. Personally I like them both for the entertainment value.

Personally I find no entertainment value in Tracy the murderer.

Well Charlie was a nasty piece of work so I wasn't sad to see him go. Obviously this is a soap and not real life, but I loved the fact that she killed him because in the way she saw it no-one was going to treat her like that and get away with it. It was quite fitting because Charlie was so smug and thought he could get away with anything. Then of course Tracey luv just goes around winding people up which can be quite fun. The whole Steve/Becky thing does little for me though.

I think Steve will realise that, for all her faults, Becky was "the one" and will deeply regret losing her.

He was worse than Peter Barlow in some ways but to love the fact that Tracy murdered him? Gosh!

But wasn't Karen 'the one' and Fiona and all the others. Steve seems to get himself into all these toxic relationships and they all end badly. As for Tracey, he should never have slept with her again after that one night stand.

What I hate is that people - Kylie, Becky but especially Roy - have made it clear to Steve he is being lied to and taken for a ride, and his face always takes on this pained, pondered expression as if he is digesting this info....but then he totally ignores all he has been told and acts as if Tracy is telling the complete truth! Surely he would go and discuss it with someone who is detached and get more advice?? Instead he is just being so blind and thick.

Tracy's exactly the same though
I loved Charlie myself as he was the only man I've seen who played Tracy at her own game!

Worse than Peter Peter was a pussy cat compared to Charlie. Charlie was evil, what he did to Shelly was unforgivable. Charlie was pure evil imo with no reedeming features he met his match in Tracey.
