What storylines will HOLLYOAKS have now to keep viewers engaged?
The last proper one was the excellent Silas storyline, that's ended.
Another could've been Warren and the build up to his exit, that's ended. What's really going to keep fans on the edge of their seats in 2012? The Silas Storyline is a hard one to follow... |

I'm not sure has been anything major announced but this was posted on Digital Spy a few weeks ago -
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s1...-mercedes.html It has spoilers for the first few months of 2012.

The Mercedes stuff sounds really good actually, though I thought that type of story would be done with Ash. Darren/Nancy screentime is fine by me and it will be good to see Declan again.

I have to say that i'm not really into the love stuff, so if anyone plans on having an affair, i'll probably become a casual viewer.

Mercedes is good.
I'd really like George (who's grown on me) to run a homophobic bullying/gay depression story. It's so common and just not addrssed properly in soaps. No. Love. Triangles. |

I hope the HO producers read this
![]() -No teens (well not TOO much of them I mean) -No love triangles -No anti-climaxes -No pointless affairs that the viewers don't care for (i.e. the sixth formers etc) Things that i'd like to see: -Leanne development (not these silly 'comical' plots) -A good stunt -A death! (or several!) -Silas to return to commit the above

Exits are a huge problem on the show.
In the last couple of years everyone either gets a job abroad, goes travelling or dies (35 deaths in the last five years, 21 in the 11 years before that!). You can have a dramatic exit (Jess Harris!) without dying or going to bloody Spain. Crap like Jake going to London with 2 people he doesnt know or GILLY going travelling with Zoe and Mike. |

Seems like there's going to be some story with Brendan becoming even more unhinged and believing he's invinsible. I'm looking forward to that alot.
I also think the Mercedes stuff looks good. |

The Mercedes stuff sounds okish, but I dunno. There doesn't seem to be much reason why she'd go down the 'selling her services' path. Seems like a plot device dotcor and will end up with an ending similar to the Father Francis one

They usually focus well on it (Max, Sarah, Rae, India, Steph etc), so when a spoiler surfaces that someone will die, I usually expect HO to do the exit and character justice.Exits is a problem for the show though, as well as continuity of exits. I think the most shocking continuity of a death was Heidi's. Her children didn't look bothered! A week later Jasmine made a video diary and tried to set Bart and Sinead up...what the hell? I think the Silas storyline was an anti-climax but not a bad one. It was uncertain if he would leave straight after Heidi's death, which of course he did but I still feel there's a story left to tell there. |

I think they need to make better use of their already popular characters (Jacqui, Brendan, Cheryl, Lynsey, Doug for example) by giving them the big storylines that last longest and know which characters really have potential instead of trying to force use to like characters that just aren't likable. Characters like Annalise and Dodger are quite popular with viewers but haven't had any big storylines so in 2012 I would like it if they did.
There need to be less new characters and less exits so we actually get a chance to be engaged in the characters and their storylines. I agree with a lot of posts I've seen in the soap forums lately about the love triangles. There have been too many of them and with what's going on now with Doug/Dodger/Jodie/Texas, they don't seem to get that they're overdoing it. They need to work on how they end big storylines. Jacqui's rape had a good ending but Warren's exit and the end of Silas were exciting then ended on an anti climax. There needs to be a better aftermath to all the big storylines. Seriously, there does not need to be any SinBart drama like I have heard there will be. They're going out now, the nation rejoices, so can't they now have scenes apart if they need to? I don't care about their relationship and I don't think I can sit through any more relationship drama for the 6th formers. |

For some reason Hollyoaks really easily seem to typcast characters. So characters like Dodger, Annalise, Carmel etc are under the "eye candy" category and therefore can't have sensible storylines without it being a love triangle, affair etc.
For me, the Silas storyline was done so well and will be hard to follow. I also think it was so gripping because it literally was "who was next?". As much as I loved Bex/Jenny, I do wish they hadn't introduced her just to kill her off. They have a whole cast and there is some dead wood. I really like Leanne too. They don't seem to want to delve into her character too much for some reason, she has the makings of a potential and excellent psychopath! I really think she has the possible potential of a Clare-esque type character. Not as evil or twisted no, but definitely a bunny boiler and dangerous.

Brendan is a great character, he always delivers but the hype on him really annoys me. That isn't Hollyoaks' fault though.

Basically, you should get over it and be glad that there's a character and actor on the show that gets praised as consistently as him. |

What "hype"? People liking his character because Hollyoaks and the actor have done well with him and his storyline (much better than they've done with any other character as new as him except Mitzeee) is not hype. It is Hollyoaks' fault in a way because it shows that they don't put enough attention into giving the rest of their characters real depth nor do they always cast actors who can act very well so it makes Brendan stand out more, especially among the new characters.

I am not criticizing the character of Brendan. I am merely disputing the fact that some fans of the character make him out to be some kind of God on this forum. That is all! |
