Do people actually enjoy the mayhem and ridiculous crowds? And to think there was supposed to be a tube strike

It would seem some people do.
Not my cup of tea, but when my daughters were younger they could not wait to get into the shops to spend their Christmas gift money.
I imagine Sale offers would attract some people too.
