Sky 3D thread.

Judging by the various threads dotted about the place, there seem to be a fair number of new 3DTV owners at the moment, and inevitably some of those will have access to Sky's 3D channel. So I though this might be a good time to start a thread on the subject.

Maybe it will reach the dizzy heights of sticky status. Maybe it will die a horrid death as 3D implodes on itself. Or maybe it will be hijacked by lots of people saying "3D is a fad! blah, blah, blah..."

I'll start the ball rolling -

NEW content on Sky 3D this weekend

Gulliver's Travels 3D (first non-PPV showing) Starts Friday 30th Dec @10:00am

The Bachelor King - David Attenborough's Penguin Documentary. Starts Saturday 31st Dec @ 8:00pm

Oceana Air Show - US Navy aircraft display team. Starts Saturday 31st Dec @ 9:30pm

And even if you don't have the 3D channel, there's also StreetDance 3D over on BBC HD (169) on Sunday 1st Jan @ 6:25pm

As a new owner of a 3D TV I say " Not enough HD content on Sky 3D ( CH217) "

I'm confused...

Are you saying that only non-3D viewers can rent it...

or

Are you suggesting that it is free to those with the channel, but available via SBO to those without the 3D channel.

or

have i missed the point completely?

Because as far as I'm aware, it is a Box Office Movie (pay per view) for everybody, regardless of whether you have the 3D channel or not. (in fact, it may not be available to non-3D channel customers at all according to their Facebook page)

From what I can make out it's on Sky 3D from this Friday, for those who don't have 3D they will have to pay for it via SBO.

Those that have 3D will have to pay too.

It's a new release and so the broadcast rights are still in the Pay Per View window. Sky would not be allowed to show it for free, even if they wanted to.

Right I'm with you now, just looked the the synopsis and it says ppv, I was just looking in my tv mag and it just advertises the movie as normal.

A shame as it would be a nice incentive.

They have done something similar in the past where they have premiered movies on their premiere movie channel the same day as the DVD release.

At least it's got the 3D thread of to a good start.

We got Lion King 3D which was a brand new release for "free" a couple of weeks ago, but that's about it.

Generally speaking, 3D movies usually become "free" to watch when their 2D counterparts appear on Sky Movies Premier, just like Gulliver's Travels tomorrow.

You are happy that some 3d content on CH217 is chargeable via SBO ?

To clarify , Some films shown on CH217 are chargeable Via SBO, and you don't get a freebie viewing because you have the Sky 3D channel turned on your subs

27th & 28th at 8pm both nights.

Don't forget there's a one off showing of Sanctum tonight at 10pm.

Not on again until at least February.

Oh, and Avatar has two showings on Sunday, Not on again in 3d (until at least February).

Where else would they show it? There's currently only one 3d channel, so all content goes there,

If a film's in its PPV window, surely 3d viewers should have the chance to buy it?

Don't forget, the lion's share of the fee goes to the distributor and not Sky (same as with PPV boxing).

It's on Sky Movies Premiere from today. Don't know why there's only one showing though in 3d.

If Sky are so obsessed with 3D now and want to push it why not have a free 3D weekend or a free day at least.

They have free sport and movie weekends, c'mon Sky show some christmas spirit

I've had a 3D TV since June 2010 and I can say the 3D as well as the 2D picture quality of my Panasonic 65 inch TV is out of this world and I watched a new animated film of Scrooge just before Christmas in 3D and at the beginning of the film where the snow was falling outside Scrooges house just about the first 60seconds of the film it , the snow seemed to come out right of the TV and half way across the living room and the death of the 3D picture is fantastic as well. Sport is also very good as well, as are the documentarys, particullarly the wildlife programes.

I agree, it might give the 3D channel a boost.

But Sky's 3D channel director John Cassy says subscribers to Sky 3D are in six figures and growing comfortably. Should that rate fall, then I'm sure this is the kind of tactic they will employ to get the uptake rising again.

Does anyone who's had Sky 3d for a while know which of the IMAX 3d documentaries have been shown?

I've only had 3d a fortnight and have seen Grand Canyon Adventure and Bugs!

Have Hubble or Legends of Flight and other titles been shown?
