I was wondering if anyone thinks if we will - we've had two 40+ finalists for two years running achieving 3rd place - I know in DWTS America they've had two 40+ winners and Kirsty Alley was a runner up earlier in the year - but it hasn't happend here yet. Although I don't think Pamela would have made a worthy winner - if I'm honest I think she should have been out in the semis - I wouldn't have minded if Jason had won this year.

Id say a 50+ celeb winning is very unlikely ... but I do think that there is possibility of a 40-50 celeb winning seeing that every year there seems to be more older celebs and less younger ones.

Yes I remember there was quite a bit of moaning on here re the celebs being too old this year - it personally didn't bother me although I understand there should be a mix of ages to appeal to everyone but I think Chelsee and Harry were two of the youngest finalists though since Matt D and Aleesha.
I doubt if we'll see a 50+ winner here either though in America the two celebs that won were around 50.
The younger contestants probably do have more stamina, but I could definitely imagine someone like Jason winning. There have been three winners in their late thirties so far, Darren at 35, Mark at 37 and Chris at 38, so why not?

I hope so - the Ramps series was the first series I watched and I was in my 30s at the time so I was happy to see him win because I liked him and his dancing - wasn't too thrilled when Chris won because I found him a bit irritating and most of his dancing didn't appeal but I accept the voters loved him and I was happy for Ola.
Now I'm in my 40s and I'd love to see a 40+ celeb win but only one that I like of course
I think it would entirely depend on who the over 40/50 the celeb is to be honest....in my view they would have to a reasonable dancer and hugely popular before they come to strictly. This was most definately the case with Donny Osmond on DWTS those two things combined with a fun personality during the show was what won the show for him.

There hasn't actually been anyone really young who has won either. No one in their teens or very early 20s.
The winners all seem to be mid/late 20s to late 30s.

I think that's because there haven't been many contestants in that age range - since I've been watching from series 4 there's been Louisa Lytton and Matt D A - I don't think there were any other in the following series until this one with Chelsee - most of them seem to be great dancers who do well in the contest - but from what I heard about the first series there was Chris Parker who reached the final despite being a lousy dancer
I tend to agree with Jan - if we're ever going to get a 40+ winner it would depend on how popular the celeb is - other factors would be how they bond with their pro partner - I gather that was one of the reasons Chris was so popular!
40+ is quite a lot. I'd love to see more old bangers on Strictly. If they're attached to someone that can dance, so much the better.
The winner is decided exclusively by phone vote, and the biggest phone voters (since about mid-2000's) are teenage girls.
Therefore all future winners will be "relatable" to teenage girls.
If you look at the finalists since series 4/5 - younger male sports stars / pop princesses/ younger soap stars.
Pamela Stephenson is the main exception age-wise, although Jason is over 40 he would have had a big female following from his soap and pop career days.

I don't think that the teenage female vote has been that important in SCD.
Since SCD started in 2004, apart from Alesha and Harry, most of the winners wouldn't have appealed to teenage girls e.g. Darren, Chris, Tom.
If you look at Youtube stats for SCD winners' dances, females aged 45-54 are often the top viewers.
In contrast, X-Factor winners' YT videos are most popular with teenage female viewers.
Maybe the average age (and sex) of the viewing public is a factor, but the real issue has been the failure to get a combination of the right personality and competency (as mentioned previously on the thread). I'd really like to see an older person win it.

I havo no info whether teenage girls constitute the majority of Strictly phone voters. In that Final where "four 10s" 60yo Pamela was passed over by phone voters, she was clearly passed over by much older viewers in this forum as well, judging by clearcut forum polls.
56yo Cheri Lunghi was probably the best longshot older woman ever, adding her beauty and charm to dance appeal. But on one fateful Saturday night James decided to dress Cheri like a teenage girl and played air guitar on her delectable thigh. Whatever the reason the public voted to retain, not 56yo Cheri but a 64yo -- a man.

Cheri was a great ballroom dancer but apart her rumba I can't remember any decent Latin dances she did - she made mistakes galore in her Paso yet still was overmarked by the judges in that dance! So while I think she should have got further than she did she wasn't winning material.
Pamela was another case of being a good dancer but overrated by the judges I don't think she deserved all those 10s she got over Matt and Kara's superior dancing.
As an older viewer in my 40s I'd certainly vote for an older woman but they'd have to be good at ballroom AND latin and I'd have to believe they're genuinely good and not being overmarked by the judges for spurious reasons - their personality would also have to appeal to me - as personalities Cheri and Pamela didn't do much for me.

Cheri retained a beautiful figure, but Pamela would have been slimmer?
I am suggesting the same two persons, had they appeared on Strictly at age 23, would have been faster and prettier. These attributes would have distracted viewers from other limitations even had they remained unchanged from age 23 to 56.
It would be hard to prove this unless mother and daughter were lined up side-by-side on stage, and no sensible mother would allow that. Pamela's two daughters were actually there in Shepherds Bush, and had they gone on against Pamela they would have started with an unfair advantage?
